30 picks to go. Starting to think my 1.28% chance of getting in WSER isn't going to pan out.

My brother was like, “You ran in those?”
Probably my favorite running shoe.

Crushed a long run workout today. 8 miles of progression (8:45 down to 8:00) then 2 miles of threshold (6:52, 6:48), then jogged until I hit 90 minutes total. 11 and some change total. Also the first time I've done a long run outdoors since the diabetes diagnosis. I had a little pouch of honey with me to take at halfway and it was perfect

Today’s run put me over 1,000 miles on the year for the first time. Have been at 35+ miles per week for a couple months now and surprisingly feel good.
Also, I saw Varsity Sports announced there will be a New Orleans Marathon and Half Marathon next November. Really happy to have an official event back, though the route leaves a little to be desired. They showed the HM route going a little through City Park and then out and back on the Lakefront. Guessing it’s just a lot easier to close down those roads vs anything Downtown or on St Charles.

Congrats on the 1k milestone.
I was hoping to hit 2.5k but my foot currently has other plans so prob end up at 2250. However I do have 260k of elevation gain.

Well I'm just going to keep my stats to myself then. Y'all are doing great!

11.5 easy miles today. 10:30 pace and 142HR. 1200’ of elevation. It’s fricking hot out there bros. 70 degrees today. Feels weird to be shirtless in late Dec and not be in a race.

Weather today was trash. Had a 10 miler. Wanted to go 6:00/mi, but hung on for 6:12/mi. Disgusting weather for December. Of course, Monday morning it will be 29 degrees

Anyone here ever dealt with a calf strain. It's grade 1 but it is uncharted territory for me. Felt it pull when doing bridge repeats.

Yes...didn't stop running, but it also didn't hurt all the time. I got a compression sleeve for it, I think that helped. Stretching was good for it, but I could tell when I was starting to stretch too much and had to pull back. Massage and the sleeve were better than stretching, but I am sure all of that depends on exactly how it's hurt and how bad. I'm about 6 weeks after re-aggravating (originally popped it playing pickeball with old people, then tweaked it again doing nothing but turning to go up some stairs. Yay being 47).

Do we discuss cross training here? My goal is to do 1.5 hrs of zone 2 per day. I try to not make all of that running.
Today was 1.0 hr of swimming at 135HR. Swimming is by far my weakest cross training activity. I suck at it and feel totally unnatural in the water.

Are you doing an IM or other triathlon? Or is this just another way to get cardio? There's an IM training thread I've seen on here too.

Seriously, baw. He can't even sub 6 minute run!
I could run that pace for maybe a mile before passing out.

Have you considered doing the Norwegian Singles Method? Seems right up your alley, especially since the guy who popularized it was a pretty good cyclist before he started running. Cross training fits in nicely with it

What is this?
I’m just trying to keep 1.5hrs per day of HR 135-150 for a continuous period of time. Doesn’t matter what the activity is.

A guy on Letsrun called sirpoc84 essentially came up with it. He was a former sub-elite cyclist and likened it to their sweet spot training. You do 3 sub-threshold sessions a week, 3 easy runs (below 70% max HR) and an easy long run. He went from a 19 minute 5k to winning the British masters 5k title in 15:04 and ran a 2:24 marathon earlier this year

I've seen it. But as much as I like running, dropping my pace into the 11-12 minute a mile category would kill me, with boredom.

That’s kinda what I’m doing now. Been shaving a minute on all my races compared to last time. I just ordered the book from Amazon. Thanks.
