Sinus surgery recovery

Having sinus surgery next week-remove growth in ethmoid, correct septum, etc. She said it's about a 2½ hour surgery. Any insights on recovery time, things that would be helpful. I haven't had surgery since I was 16 and I just turned 56. I'm a tad bit gunshy at my age.

You will be fine. I had one in December and was off pain meds after a day. But the things that come out of your nose the next week or so will be unholy.

Good to know. Thanks!

I hocked up a scab the size of a 50 cent piece.

The septum will cause the pain. I had mine done about 20+ years ago, and back then they still used all the packing. I went in on a Friday morning early, and was back home by lunch. Woke up in recovery in really bad pain, they stuck a shot in my arm and I dozed back off. I was in college at the time, and my Mom was driving me home. I made it to the kitchen sink and threw up some blood, they said that can happen as some will ooze down your throat during surgery. Plus I was tubed during the procedure, so my throat was a little raw.
Days 2-3 were rough, hard to find a comfortable sleeping position. I was having to breathe through my mouth since my nose was packed, and I'd wake up in the middle of the night with my throat so dry I didn't feel like I could breathe. I ditched the water cup for one of those Gatorade squirt bottles and would just spray it into my mouth. I had to do a saline rinse several times a day and it would wash out any scabs. Around day 5 I was feeling more normal, and I went back after a week for a checkup where they removed the packing. It felt like they were dragging a large slimy worm out of my nose, and it hurt coming out, but that first feeling of breathing in deep through your nose once it is gone is awesome. Still had to keep up the saline rinses a few times a day for another week or two.

I had a septum fixed and tonsils out 4 months ago. You'll breathe extremely well, but recovery purely depends on if you bleed or not. I had to have a nose tampon rammed into my sinus because I started bleeding dangerously badly. It sucked.

Has a procedure last year. NeilMed nasal rinse with lukewarm water hits the spot. You'll be getting some wild boogers and blood clots coming out for about a week, but everything else settles pretty quick.
