Insurance can be difficult in some areas of Louisiana. Having said that, I know of one personally that survived Rita, Ike, Laura & Delta with zero damage in upper Cameron parish. There were also plenty that imploded for Laura in calcasieu parish.

most of the metal building damage we saw for those storms was loss of roof/wall sheeting. The occasional structural steel collapse/damage was most likely due to cyclones that spin up during the storms, for which there is very little defense

That’s the issue we had. Companies said they didn’t have any comps so they didn’t know what to charge. We did eventually find one that insured us. This was about 15 years ago so it’s probably easier now that there are more of them out there.

We are back to 15 years ago, not getting a true HO on barndo. Dwelling policy or Standard Fire is typical and both offer less coverage. Draw a line across the state (La) from S Beauregard parish, anything south will be difficult and or expensive.

Sorry off topic. I noticed your name/avatar. Last year we spent with the BIL's uncle who has an amazing ranch with a barndominium based car collection. Among the cars was a GNX, absolutely cherry. When i was a young man in Gonzales, I met Steven Dove who was attending the annual Come and Take it celebration with his dad. I was in a nice regal at the time and we talked for a bit and he pulled out a copy of his black turbo buick book and signed it for me. I've had it all these years and when we went back to the same place for thanksgiving this year, I gave the book to him. When we were leaving several days later, the book was right by his chair with a bookmark about halfway through it.

One of the cons that I have heard of about a barndominium is that there are no comps and that financing them is tough to do because of that.
Yea, do not say the word bardominium, it's a farmhouse. Financing will go easier if you never mention the word barndo.

Cgrand,
I’ve got house plans that I’d like to get pricing to do it as a barndo instead. Something you’d be interested in letting me know if it’s possible?

I’m not a contractor any longer (sold company) but I do revit (3D design) on the side. If you need design work I can help you. For budgeting best I’d be able to do is a general guideline
