Started in September, still have some stuff to touch up. But it’s basically done as of this weekend.

It must’ve been intended to be something when building, because it had 2x10 joists already hanging above the garage. Which was nice.

Also, my best friend is a general contractor, so he got me started on a lot of the stuff and helped me a lot with the electrical and framing.

Started with the flooring. Yes, it’s running the wrong way. The previous owner had already glued and nailed about 6 sheets of OSB down. So we just went with it, and put in extra bracing from below.

The framing was difficult. That little notch in the back was particularly challenging throughout the build. There’s a mini split behind it.

We had a little portable A/C that kept the attic somewhat cool during September.

Insulation and drywall. He got me started on drywall also.

My buddy giving me drywall lessons.

Finishing touches. Paint and flooring. There was a significant hump in the floor, so we rented a drum sander and ground it down.

Me installing the cheapest flooring we could find. It’s a closet.

It went in pretty easily.

The attic doors were custom made. There’s some flooring for storage on each side of the pony walls.

Only the second time I’ve done built-ins. I didn’t make them as clean as I would’ve liked. But they’re fine for a closet.

I used scrap lumber, 1x4 pine, and Blonde Wood. It’s plywood with a high grade finish.

Finished product.

I haven’t done the final tally, but I’m probably between 2 and 2,300. I didn’t have to buy any of the OSB. The biggest purchases were drywall and insulation. My buddy said he would’ve quoted 14-16k for the job.

I’ve still got to insulate underneath the floor. And I’ll probably have to put in a mini split to keep it cool. Right now it’s a bathroom fan sucking cold air through the closet from the adjoining bedroom.

Only thing I would've done differently is change out the wire racks for some wood shelves and metal hanging rods. Overall looks awesome.

I’m with you, the boss said otherwise.

We just cleaned out a spare bedroom and turned into a big closet. No one ever stayed in it so it made sense to us. Yours looks great BTW. Nice work.

they often do that expecting it to be used for storage space and in the higher end model house they finish them like you did. its a small cost to make them all the same in the plans so they can just easily add the upgrades as needed later on

Also for the long spans in a garage or carport.

I am considering doing this same thing. Kids are grown and gone, and we have an adjoining wall to a bedroom we'd like to convert to a closet. Did you create access to the closet by cutting an opening in the wall? That its the way I'd like to proceed.

Looks good. Great job!

Why does one guy get his face blurred out and the other doesn't?

I don't know why he blurred Captain America's face anyway. Everyone knows his identity.

One guy posts on here a lot and is trying to keep his secret identity, and didn’t think to do that for his buddy, who doesn’t post here.

Oops.

It was already cut. There were a few sheets of OSB down already. It was just being used for storage.
