I can't get the video from the OT of the poor guy trapped in the elevator with the lithium battery out of my head.
I had a great experience with lion replacements for my nicad 18v DeWalt but have always stuck with ego batteries.
What's the biggest downside? It's just sending juice to the tools right? What's the worst thing that can happen outside of you know, catching on fire in the garage and buying your house down?

With these batteries being able to increase capacity and lower their size this is exactly what concerns me. They're made by shitty shops in the middle of China that no one knows about. Very little testing. At least if your EGO battery blows up you'll be able to sue Chevron.

Ok that answers my question penny wise pound foolish

Chervon not Chevron

It's Chervon not to be confused with Chevron. It's a company based in China
So Ego batteries are made in China too

Everyone's batteries are made in China, LG and Samsung have manufacturing plants there and they are by far the biggest manufacturers of lithium battery cells/pouches.

Oops. Either way, I'd still be more comfortable buying from a much more reputable company than someone who has an Amazon store selling batteries.

I’m in the market for one too. Buddy had an EGO battery burn up at camp in GI. But I think that may have been caused by the saltwater. My only concern is the line feed. Seems to be the main complaint with them and others actually. Sounds like the engineers tried to idiot proof it and over did it.

Geez. I think I’m going to store the batteries in my industrial fire cabinet.

My ego weed eater broke twice and had to get fixed under warranty. Just trimming normal yard, nothing crazy. Maybe mines a fluke but I think it’s a POS

Bearings and shaft splines, pretty much all the bigger cordless weedeaters chew them up.

I have the string trimmer, the 2.5 battery won't even come close to 45 minutes, maybe 20 at the most.

Just the cheap aluminum one that I have to hand turn the string into the head.
It's first in line my list for next upgrade. I'm getting older and it's starting to feel heavier especially when I run it with a 5ah battery because I'm trimming for an hour or two at a time. Carbon sounds great to me.

I have used my combo since 2019 and will never go back to gas powered. Sure gas is more powerful but what the combo lacks in power it greatly makes up for in convenience. And the power is not bad at all on the EGO. I do everything I need on my home that I could do with gas powered.

I bought an Ego string trimmer about 5 or 6 years ago, it came with a 2.5 AH battery. The trimmer is a beast, very strong and lots of torque, better than any gas trimmer I've used. The auto load feature on the head is worth the price of admission. The trimmer is still going strong with tons of use.
I've got over an acre with tons of flower beds, driveway, sidewalks, trees, buildings and crap to edge and trim around so the 2.5 ah battery just wasn't enough so I bought a 5ah battery as well. After 5 years of use the 2.5 AH battery finally started getting crappy. Instead of just buying a second battery I bought a blower that came with a 5ah battery and charger (for about the same $$ as just a battery) and Lowes had a promotion going on of a free 2.5 Ah battery with the purchase of a tool. So basically for the price of a single 5ah battery I got a blower, battery, charger and a 2.5 ah battery. The blower is a beast as well, but 45 minutes on a 2.5 AH battery is a pipe dream.

What is the best combination right now for trimmer and blower? Seem to be different options, battery types, etc.
I think I want the Line IQ trimmer, and a strong blower. Can only find this with the 765 cfm blower combo with a single 4ah battery for $578. I might just start with the trimmer only and build from there.
Out yard is small but my son is doing a few yards on the side, so want to go in with him to get something we can both use.

EGO trimmer and blower combo questions
Have multiple EGO items.
When the family asked what I needed gifts wise for holidays (may have been father's day) I asked for a battery.
You won't regret having a second one to finish out a job after you forgot to recharge the one on the blower.
I think I have the lower blower #, but I am happy with it.
