Fiberglass pools

good or bad?
I live in FL and have heard they may not be great with the soil here but I have no clue.

Installed a fiberglass pool 4 years ago in south Louisiana. At the time, it was priced in between liner and gunite pools but closer to gunite pricing.
Install was much quicker(3-4 weeks) than people I’ve known that installed gunite. We had some weather delays that impacted the install.
Maintenance is pretty easy. We did a salt system and adding chemicals were every 2-3 weeks. Opening the pool didn’t require much. A wipe down with magic eraser around the water line and skimmer basket and area. Pool stay crystal clear through winter.
Pool looked great and Viking now Latham pools had a ton of options in shape and size.
Moved this year and decided to go with a hot tub instead of installing a pool because once I started having kids, I got paranoid. If not for that, would have definitely installed another fiberglass pool.

No idea about Florida soil/ground conditions, but I had a fiberglass pool installed 4 years ago here in BR. I'm very happy with it. Installation was quick. Started digging on a Thursday and was swimming the following Thursday. Maintenance is very easy like the previous poster said.
I feel fortunate that we installed when we did. It would cost us 50% more to do the exact same setup today.

Fiberglass here for the last 3 years. Love it and maintenance is minimal.

What kind of price range are we talking about for fiberglass because I'm in the middle of pricing a basic gunite and everything is sky-high.

Seems like there isn’t much price difference in my area between fiberglass and gunite.
You get a pool a lot faster with fiberglass.

Do y'all have salt or chlorine in your fiberglass pools? Anyone have a spa with theirs as well? The Leisure Ultimate 35 is basically the exact thing we have been taking about.

I did fiberglass about 25 years ago. The pricing was about 20% cheaper than gunite at the time and the shape offerings for fiberglass were pretty limited....they are much better now. I did not put in fiberglass to save money...see next point.
My main reason for going fiberglass was due to the fact that a couple of friends at the time had to have their gunite worked on a couple of times (cracks/leaks). I did have a couple of leaks over the years but that was only in the plumbing (and was due to soil settling, drought/rain cycle, etc.). If I were to do it again, I think I would have them put expansion joints specifically in the concrete/cool deck areas where the plumbing meets the pool (jets and skimmer) so if a repair had to be made, then it would be easier to rip the decking out where the leak was. The pool itself never leaked.
Maintenance is less for fiberglass (labor wise) but can't say it was cheaper to maintain dollar wise. Supposedly fiberglass is cheaper chemical wise but I never did any cost per gallon comparisons with my buddies that had gunite.
I started with chlorine then switched to salt but then switched back to chlorine because I was replacing the salt cell every 2 years and at the time, the salt cells were close to $700-$800 (I assume times have changed). I did notice that salt was easier to maintain though.
I will also note that a lot of people that used our pool commented that it was easier on their feet compared to gunite.
If I were to do it again and did not need a custom shape, I would go with fiberglass.
