I've had fruit trees in my back yard for a few years now, but this evening for the first time I noticed dozens off these little bastards on my grapefruit tree (and a small handful on my lemon tree, but they didn't seem to like it as much). I doused them with an oil combo spray (which they seemed to like even less). Regardless, I wanted to check in to see 1. if there are better ways to deal with them and 2. to ask whether I've simply not noticed them before, or if they are becoming more prevalent in south Louisiana. Certainly took me aback when I walked by the tree and I could hear them jumping around before I saw them.

they were terrible last year. my neighbor has two big crepe myrtles that they love. you walk under it and get a shower of poop/pee or whatever comes out their arse.
neighbor hates pesticides so nothing ever gets done about it.

I only saw one doing that, but it weirded me out
It was vertical on a branch facing down and the little white dot was gaining a solid inch of height before falling. I can only imagine what hundreds/thousands of them would be like.

yup, first time ever seeing these things was last year while i was putting up a pine fence. the fence runs under the crepe myrtle...as im working on the section under the crepe myrtle i can feel what i thought was a light rain starting to hit the back of my neck....look at the sky and not one cloud in sight. after realizing it was coming from the tree i thoght it was odd and thought the tree was sweating until i look closer and realize i just got shat on by hundreds of those bugs.
for a second the light rain felt nice....i guess ignorance is bliss

Anyone have any advice on murdering the little bastards? Everything I’m seeing is primarily focused on murdering the offspring. I would rather murder them all now

They transmit diseases on plants some of which are untreatable. So spray your plants with 7.9% bifenthrin. Any brand will do. Find it at TSC.
