Working great so far. Keeps the garage very nice and I barely run it in here. I was surprised at how fast it worked.
Today I ran a morning charter and left it off. When I got home about an hour ago, I switched it on. Garage was 80 deg at the time. Now just 45 mins later, its 74 and thats on low fan speed and with the temps set on the mini split at 77.
One thing that I had to learn was that the remote is the thermostat. The unit must always see the remote in order to know the temps in the room. When I first got it installed, I would throw the remote on my work bench and forget about it. A hour later, it would be 66 deg in here.
Lesson learned.
But honestly, so far, it is better than I expected

congrats
our new home that we bought last summer has mini splits throughout and I knew nothing about them at the time but spoke to a homebuilder friend of mine about them and he said it's the only way he'd go. Having had ours for a while now, I tend to agree.

Do you have to adjust the tension of the garage door spring after adding that weight to it or is the weight negligible?

I’m curious about this as well

Two years ago I did the very same thing to my garage. I was concerned about the added weight to the garage door and had the door guy come look at it. He said the added weight was nothing and that he has seen 1/2 hp motors used with wooden doors with no problems.

I did not. Those panels are very light. Manually, I can feel that the door is a little heavier but it was still balanced and I did not have to adjust the springs.
The only thing that I had to do was recalibrate the opener. Mine has a auto adjust so I just ran it through that process and that was it.

Thanks. This is good to know. Worrying about the added weight was the only reason I’ve held off on doing the same thing.
I’ll look into if mine had an auto calibrate, that’s interesting.
What’s the R rating of those panels?

I think they are like 7 or 8. I cant remember.. You will need to measure the depth of your door pocket to see what thickness you can put in there. I think it comes in half inch, three quarter and 1 inch thick. Maybe even 1.5"
I will tell you though not to get the exact size. Id get one size smaller. They are tight in there as it is and you dont want to break them when you bend them to get them in the pocket. I broke a couple of the first ones. Dont get frustrated at the beginning. It takes a few of them to get the hang of it. I wont call myself super mechanical and I got it down pretty quick. make sure to measure each one as my door pockets were not all exactly the same.
