Woke up this week to several small mushrooms in the yard. A quick google search tells me conflicting information. One place it says its good to have them and another says bad. Any help here?

I’m no expert, but mushrooms are a type of fungus. Not all fungi are harmful to your lawn. This includes mushrooms.
If you live in Baton Rouge area, we just got about an inch of rain Tuesday night. Most fungi grow in moist areas, so this more than likely means you have really healthy soil and the mushrooms are growing because of the rain.
No need to worry about bad lawn fungi. I do apply Scott’s DiseaseEx at the preventative rate on a schedule to be safe.

Depends on the type of mushroom but it's probably fine. If you do pull them and want them gone, be gentle and grab the stalk and don't throw them back on the grass. They release spores if you are rough with them, part of their evolutionary survival traits. I know this from farming psychedelic mushrooms in college

They're just not safe to consume unless they come from cow shite, from what I've been told.
But yes, this usually happens in super wet soil and is not indicative of poor lawn quality.

If you get mushrooms after a day or two of storms, that’s normal. They like it moist and low light.
If you get them randomly in certain spots of your yard, that means you are likely over watering or watering at the wrong time of day and your grass is staying too wet overnight.

I have a heavily forested yard and tons of mushrooms pop up in the fall. At least 5 different colors. My only concern was the dogs eating poison. I checked with the vet and he said dogs naturally avoid touching mushrooms. It's been 30 years and the vet was right. And the mushrooms are pretty.

Or you may have a low spot which collects water. Easily fixed.

I had about 6 of them pop up in my yard two days ago after all that rain. I sort of like it when that happens. I pull my driver out and tee off on them like I’m hitting the ball down the fairway and watch them explode.
