Reworking an old shower head and need some type of fairly thin gasket material that would be safe to use. Was thinking thin cork maybe?

Can’t post a pic, but it’s an old clunky shower head and the interior needs a thin seal to prevent leaking. Anything thin and non toxic as a gasket would work. Think seal thickness of a lawnmower or small engine gasket.

Why do you need a non toxic gasket on a shower head? I have never seen a plumbing seal, gasket, or o-ring that was labeled non-toxic.

I have a ziplock bag full of various faucet seals, washers, and o-rings. Most of them came from various Harbor Freight assortment sets.

I cAn promise you there are plenty of toxic gaskets seals upstream from the shower head already, put an o ring in it and be done with it, assure the Mrs that it was certified non toxic

I want non Toxic because its hitting my face at least 2 times a day. This is not the small rubber part, this is the larger housing of a shower head from the 30’s and 40’s. Very large bell housing. I need to cut at least a 4 to 5” circular gasket and cut the middle out to seal the edges. If I could find that large of a standard washer I would, but they don’t make it for this. I’ll have to cut a new one to custom make it. Not sure if this pic will post. When you take these apart, the outer edge of this think leaks if you don’t reseal them.

Contact the manufacturer....they might be able to help. I had a 35 year old toilet and the original tank to bowl gasket pretty much disentigrated. Contacted the manufacturer gave the service person a manufacturer date and picture of what was left and he knew exactly what I needed. Sent it to me no charge...I was probably the only person to call about that part and it was probably sitting in the warehouse for 35 years

You would probably puke if you saw the inside of your hot water heater and the stuff inside the old city water pipes

Probably true, but I’ve got tankless. Nonetheless, there is gross crap that is out there that we all encounter. Nobody should ever eat at a restaurant or buy from a grocery store again either!

If in BTR, go to B&B Faucet repair, on Florida Blvd. two blocks East of Flannery Rd. South side. Those folks know and have everything.

It helps to put your location in your post. That’s one of the major items needed. Plus pictures also help.

use a gallon water jug (or milk jug) and cut it from that, its soft enough to squish when tightened and seal like a gasket

Yep, didn’t put location as I figured I’d be ordering from the internet in all likelihood. The milk jug idea is intriguing.

I actually fixed the first one I bought years ago with a piece off of a sailboat.

You mentioned you were in the BTR area. Call Atlas Hose or Bluewater Rubber and gasket and ask them if they have any food grade conveyor or gasket material in stock. If they do, odds are they have remnants laying in a bin and they will sell those for cheap.
