The wife is asking about putting peel and stick wallpaper in our master bath. We have a vaulted ceiling in that room so the shower area is tiled but has a small space over the tile that’s painted drywall.

Would it be a bad idea to put peel and stick here? It won’t take direct splashes but it will see steam and humidity almost daily. I have considered rolling a coat of polycrylic over it if that will create a protective layer to prevent water getting in - probably ideal though.

I see some wallpapers advertised as water resistant but looks like most of them are “pre-pasted” and have water-soluble adhesive. For these tall ceilings I’d rather peel and stick.

Any comments appreciated. Thanks in advance.

The wallpaper is prone to curling up where it meets the tile. The best way to prevent this is to run a bead of clear silicone caulk at that junction. This will keep occasional splashes or mists from sitting there and mildewing. I am not familiar with the peel and stick type, but I assume it will be similar to contact paper, should be fine.

The Polycrylic is a bad idea. You’ll have condensation on the wallpaper from steam. Exposure to water is not good for Polycrylic.
