Think it has do with insurance.

Insurance doesn't care which side faces in or out.

Insurance cares greatly about which side faces out when a pool is concerned.
It's all about liability when someone drowns in the pool even though the drowned person is trespassing and in the pool without permission.

Common sense no longer applies when judges and lawyers are involved.

The insane shite that women was saying to us like "i need to know if they hand nail it or use a nail gun. Nail guns aren't as good of quality" or "i need to really trust the people i am hiring" like a fence needs to be put up by a master tradesmen

You can tell when someone did a google search and read a few reddit posts.

No - Insurance doesn't care which side faces in or out even if there is a pool.

Every HO policy or pool endorsement I have read in my 40 years of claims experience says nothing about which side a fence should face with or without a pool.

Think has do with insurance. With boards out harder to climb. With the runners or whatever they're called could climb easier.
I have never had my fence type, orientation, or even existence looked at by my insurance company. Hell, I dont recall them asking about it. I surely havent had rates change based on type or existence.

It’s pretty stupid. Makes it easier for someone to climb into your yard. Had a friend whose house they moved in was broken into because the ugly side of the fence faces out and the guy climbed over.

Don’t understand. I built my fence where both sides look good?

That is the only reason I have heard that makes sense. Safety issue for keeping people out.

It really bothers me when it’s a shared fence like a neighborhood that spans multiple properties or a commercial application. Like you said, highly visible locations

I just redid mine.. I paid so I put them how I wanted.. I go with the “pretty side” out.. I do not really think the pole side is ugly but it is what I have always had..

I have alleyways in my neighborhood and we enter our garages from behind the houses.. climbing from a public alley was a concern.. when I was discussing it with my neighbor with shared fence.. he said he wanted me to switch and put the pole side on his side so his kids could climb on the fence easier.. I just looked at him and said… no I do not think I am going to go that route ( again. I was paying full price if it )

All they care about is whether or not a fence exists and if there is a lock on the gate or not.

I had a ball doing insurance inspections.
