i am kinda enjoying giving you a hard time. i know aTm were real good in the 90s, but they thought they could do better than RC, then struck out with fran. i know a website is not representative of a schools fanbase, but the maroon glasses on that site are VERY thick. their glowing optimisim is admirable, yet unfounded. you are a good sport for taking the ribbing in stride

(yes, i hold a grudge against that site for banning me everytime i get a new name )

dude, frick texags... that site sucks!!

I see you're in Houston. I'd be happy to buy a Tiger a beer or thirty.

Speaking of... the LSU/Aggie roommate, the Aggie roommate and the UCLA/Pacific girlfriend are headed to the bar right now by the house. Baker STreet at 249 and 1960.

You have to understand that the site is populated with young guys that have very little knowledge of sports history. Many think that things simply stay the way they are and have always been that way.

I went to a lot of games at Kyle Field back in the early to mid 90's.I had free flights in and free tickets, so what the hell, huh?

Needless to say, the "traditions" at A&M aren't my cup of tea. Once you've lived the "Tiger" life, everything else is second-rate. Nothing compares to the atmosphere at LSU.

Fair enough. People have different tastes. However, the atmosphere is much different today. Tailgating is everywhere and much more similar to LSU than the rigidness of the old days.

I can remember the Aggies taking it to us in the early 90s, but would love to renew the season opener with them, I think it is good for both teams.

That being said, I saw this quote on the link,
quote:

Hopefully, Sherman will agree to meet with him during his visit

My opinion of Sherman is that he is a bit of a lazy recruiter, is this comment indicative of some A&M fans thinking the same?

I kind of thought that at first with the whiffs happening early, but he has pulled off some good hauls lately, and I think he is finally understanding recruiting in the 2000s versus recruiting in the early 90s.

Interesting that he only got them to a single bowl game and he lost that, appropriately enough, to Tennessee!!!

Even ULL beat TAMU in football. Jake Delhomme and Brandon Stokley waxed that arse

We were 60-4 at home in the 90s. We averaged 10 wins from 85-94. Won 7 conference championships from 85 to 2000. Three top 10 finishes.

You were also on probation twice and nearly rec'd the Death Penalty during your run in the 90's!

We were on probation once in the 90s (1994), and didn't almost receive the death penalty. No one has since SMU got the axe.

FWIW, What OU did three years ago, was worse than what A&M did in 1993.

I think you are confusing TAMU with BAMA, a university where cheating is an art form.

Fraudphony was a bitch. I do think it was Slocum's time to go... he couldn't recruit anymore, he was too conservative with his coaches, and he had become socially awkward with the fanbase.

i dont think hes lazy at all. as some have said on that site, its damn near impossible, right now, for aTm to recruit elite players with lsu, ut, and ou in the battle. those 3 have won national titles many conference titles this decade. its an uphill battle to convince star players they are going to turn it around without results on the field.

on top of that, their coach hasnt been in college football for over 10 years. recruiting has changed sooo much in that time, he needs time to get used to it, refine his approach in the living room, and get used to evaluating high school kids, not college. at this point, he has to take what he can get. he cant sit around hoping to pull 5* guys and risk being left with nothing.

i dont think hes doing all that bad considering the circumstance. problem is, while hes getting solid, yet unspectacular players, the main teams hes competing with are getting the studs, and that makes a&m fall one more year behind on the talent curve. coaching can only help so much when yuo have all 3* players playing 4/5* players

BINGO! He wasn't lazy, he just had no clue at first. He needs to win at least 8 games this year and be competitive in the losses. If he can do that, and beat one or two of OU/TX/Miami it will go a long way convincing the 5 star guys to take a harder look at A&M. Its not a one year project... its a 3-4 year one.

We are in the same position that LSU was in during the late 90s. We get our fair share of 3/4 star players, but we need the top talent to return.

DiNardo didn't do a bad job of locking the state's talent down, and Fran's one upside was recruiting some of those top talents (see Goodson, Bennett, Lewis, Pugh, etc.) If Sherman can coach like advertised, we should be alright in the mid range future.
