Derby, I don't know if you read this scout article but it says Jarvis is being recruited for MLB.

At 6-3½ and just under 230-pounds Jarvis Jones projects at the middle linebacker position next season and is being recruited by some of the biggest names in all of college football [Charlie Strong].

"I think that the situation that I would be in is pretty simple. I walk on campus and pretty much would be second team middle linebacker.”

Just sayin

It is our thinnest position for sure, but if a stud like Baker can't make an immediate impact, I doubt Tajh Jones could make the 2-deep in his first two seasons. He could end up being dead weight for quite a while.

In that case, we might as well aim for a top LB next year (edit: I mean someone in the class of 2010) who could contribute right away.

Well you managed to strike out on all three of your points.

a) Jarvis Jones is being recruited as a middle linebacker, and Brandon Spikes and Ryan Stamper (both seniors next year) will play that position. Stamper doesnt start but he still gets starter minutes.
b) Jarvis Jones isnt gonna start anywhere in his first year, and this was a Florida/Texas battle to begin with.
c) Just because rivals lists Jarvis Jones as a defensive end and it says Charlie Strong is recruiting him, doesnt mean you should try and make it out like it is your "source". Jones will play middle linebacker at Florida.

And this is not even close to the Andre Debose recruitment. Debose chose to stay in state, and play in a system that fits him best. Plus, he doesnt want to have to fight for playing time with Russell Sheppard at the slot.

I had heard he was being discussed primarily as playing DE - not any LB spot... he is a mobile LB and good athlete and most project him as the OLB and Bostic as the middle

Dude, STFU ...I live in this gay arse city they call Gainesville and I keep a pulse on it

I bet Branden Beal thought he'd play LB at Florida too...

I guess I missed it somewhere if he did indeed de-commit, but whatever became of the Willie Ferrell situation? There were a lot of rumors about his commitment but I never saw anything final. Last I saw was he was still solid amid all the rumors.

You had heard he was being discussed primarily as playing DE? Who told you this? Its not true so stop acting like it is. The guy is a top linebacker in this class.......Florida would not put him at defensive end.

I'm pretty sure a Gator poster said he was being pursued as a DE. Perhaps Xeno? Could be wrong, but it was a Gator poster.

Per ESPN:

quote:

Greg Reid has "rough" meeting with Urban Meyer Former Florida pledge Greg Reid sat down with Gators head coach Urban Meyer Sunday morning while visiting campus and told ESPN affiliate Web site TotalUGA.com about what transpired.

"(Meyer) said that I hurt him. He was upset with me because he said he's been recruiting me since I was a sophomore. We met for almost an hour. We talked about a lot of things and about football, but he wanted me to recommit, but I didn't do it."

Reid now claims a top of three of Georgia, Florida State and Florida, with Alabama on the outside looking in. He's canceled an official visit to Mississippi State.

Beal was too SLOW for the speed of the Gators and winded up tearing his ACL. During his rehab, he gained twenty pounds and is now 260+. Do you think that someone 260 can play linebacker in the SEC? Hell no. Jarvis Jones will play middle linebacker for UF in college, and Brendan Beal has nothing to do with him.

As for the Greg Reid comment, Reid grew up a Gator fan and didnt miss a home game in the last two years. Dontcha think that a coach would be a little confused by that? I dont think he will be in this class now, but im not counting him out yet.

J.J. would have a lot of competition at florida. Considering spikes is staying, he's not going to play before him.

then he has to win the job over Beal, unless beal is being moved, William green, lerentee mccray, t.j. pridemore, and john bostic. That's a lot of frosh and sophs at linebacker.

just don't think it would be smart of him.

+1. Especially if Jelani Jenkins signs which he may, they are stacked at LB. Come on over Mr Jones

Well Beal has gained a ton of pounds this year and is up to 260. William Green is a defensive end. Lerentee McCray is simply a backup that will stay on special teams forever. TJ Pridemore is a fullback, and Jon Bostic is already on campus learning the strongside linebacker position.

To play next year, he would have to beat out Brandon Spikes and Ryan Stamper (both seniors). Once they both graduate next year, he will practically have the middle linebacker job. Jarvis Jones knows this and will come to Florida because of it. How would it not be smart of him to come to Florida? He is set up perfect for his whole career.
