sure fooled a lot of people it seems....

In the race to land one of the nation’s fastest athletes, LSU appears to hold a slight edge over Alabama. For the Tigers, Frank Wilson and Billy Gonzales now look to open up the lead.

Articles like that one are the reason we(LSU fans) aren't extremely concerned with him commiting to Bama in May.Most of has have a pretty good idea that he'll be a Tiger in Feb.Not saying it will happen because Bama is a great school to go to but the heart leads home in most cases like Sylve's.Either way it will be a long stressful 9 months until signing day for Sylve and both fanbases that keep up with recruiting more than just in passing.

damn i thought he was more of a 10.5-10.6 kid

even 10.6 isn't leet, like some people are trying to proclaim. he's a pretty fast guy, but his speed is not epic.

Has anyone asked if maybe the staff was slow playing Sylve and with his multiple injuries
(ankle/elbow)he needed to commit where he could?
Let me have it.

I haven't read all 12 pages of this thing. But, on the surface, the posters who've pointed out that LSU of late has been "Big Receiver U" with Lafell, Byrd, Tolliver, Randle, etc. seem to be on the money. Doucet was our last main man receiver 6' or under, and these recruits are starting to be too young to have been interested past that.

For what it's worth (clearly not much), I would think the development and use of Russell Shepard in 2010 will have a big impact on where Sylve (and potentially future prospects like him) will end up. Ask Trovon Reed?

Miles offered with him on crutches, and told him the offer was good,no matter what. There was NO slow-play.

Anyone who thinks a kid from Plaquemines who commits to Alabama isn't going to keep it is nuts. Why would he do this otherwise. He's gone. I hope it works out for him.

I'm pretty sure the folks in Texas said something similar about Mike Davis. You may very well be right in the end, but I wouldn't go so far as to say anyone who disagrees is "nuts".

well i thought davis didn't have an offer until late, then when they offered, he switched

i'm pretty sure (i honestly may be 100% wrong) that sylve has an offer from LSU

As for someone that kind of reminds me of Early, Terrance Magee when I saw him in the dome. Where does LSU play him? Like I said, something about him and Doucet. Might just be me.

I thought the word on Sylve was that he was heading out of state from the get go.

Anyway, best of luck to him.

Sylve may well stick with the Tide in the end. But I still think the Tigers can make up a whole lot of ground if Shepard shines this season. A chance to play in front of a home crowd in a system that (in theory) would allow you to shine. That's a hard offer to decline.

On another note...does the Landry committment have any play here? Similar measurables and skill sets from what I understand. Maybe Sylve just felt like the second option??

Landry is a little thicker at around 200#'s. He looks to be ranked as the top WR on most boards. Along those lines, the Lewis kid from St. James is a verbal at 6'3" and 200#'s. With the players signed in the 2010 class and this one, WR will be one of the deeper position on the team.

WR is the position I have the least concern about. We will find and get good wrs.last year we lost Reed,Hunter and Davis but still ended with what i think is a very good group.Rankings aren't everything.I know a couple of very in tune guys in Florida that say/said that Boone was the best wr in Florida last cycle.Wright may not have the upside Hunter has but to me is more of a sure thing to at least be solid.Williams has a lot of upside. He's a great athlete no matter the speed. If you're going to take a chance on a wr I'd rather it be a kid with size and great athleticism.Fobbs was a guy we wanted all along.Even though I feel he'll be a cb eventually,he has good skills for the slot.To me Tharold Simon has as much potential as any wr.If the kid makes it in and stays focused in school,he could be the star of this class.I love this kids potential. That's a good, safer group than a lot of us thought last year after Davis and hunter decommited. We have the best wr in the land for my money in Landry,Lewis has very good potential and size, put the press on Beckham and let him play wr(if he doesn't work then move him to cb),several OOS kids we have a shot with and i still think the kid Briggs from Franklinton is the biggest sleeper in the entire state. We need to keep a close eye on that kid.

Quite frankly, i would not be concerned at all about Sylve.. Even though he committed to Alabama.. I'd be willing to put up a lot on Sylve ending up at LSU and that's from a rock solid source... Odds are he ends up a tiger.

His family seems very happy about the commitment. He seems ecstatic about it.

Capstone you are my favorite Bama guy on this site but this one will be stressful to both sides. He loves LSU but is being given bad info(and Bama is the king right now;for my money THE recruiting powerhouse in the nation so no knock for him choosing them)about the depth at LSU.He may stick with Bama and it wouldn't suprise me but in no way is this a done deal.Pops is in a bad spot right now and things are messed up at the moment but 9 months is a long time to have fans and fellow recruits in your ear about the school you love.My bet is that he ends up signing with LSU in FEB.Will be fun though.We(Bama/LSU) haven't had a good battle in a while and this one will be one to keep us talking.Bama will be fine at WR with or without him as will LSU.
