I think Alabama just took a 1 star - who woulda thought that? Maybe they see something in the kid that others don't.

He has just been upgraded since Bama got his commitment to a 3*

looks like LSU accepted his commitment today:

Eric Thomas, a versatile weapon for the Eagles during his ECA days has committed to take his talents to Baton Rouge and suit up for Les Miles

Not true.

Hell, the kid is visiting Southern this weekend instead of LSU.

How bad is that?

Maybe he strongly believes in Southern's mission.

If you have seen him play, you can legitimately critique him. Don't base your opinion on those who haven't.

I haven't seen him play, but I have watched him on film. I used the word "project" because I don't think he is even remotely a finished project (and my standard is relatively high - Michael Clayton was ready to play day one - as was Julio Jones - I have seen relatively few others play, in person, who were as prepared to play in their first game.)

However, I can't see where others on this board are denigrating a kid (there is some residual anti-Evangel bias, to be sure) who's character is beyond reproach (if reports are to be believed), is academically solid, is clearly "a winner", and has very good size and certainly decent athleticism.

Further, as he appears to be a high effort guy, combined with his measureables, he is a low-risk, high-reward type of recruit (with his, admittedly light offer sheet), and can best be described as a "sleeper", a "project", or a "diamond-in-the-rough", by me, without deeming any of those terms, in this context, insults.

ETA - There seems to be some conflicts in the reporting on the academics. Nobody has said he doesn't have the grades. However, some are saying he has a qualifying ACT, while others disagree.

He was also being recruited by D.J. McCarthy, who invited him for a second visit to the July camp. Obviously, at that time some of D.J.'s unfortunate mistakes began to surface, and the kid fell through the cracks. He has letters from most of the SEC recruiters, plus many of the Big 12 schools. He was waiting for the LSU offer he thought would come from D.J., and didn't respond to the letters. Looking at highlight films is fine but they do not accurately reveal the measure of the player. For that you need to be there. One of the things you didn't see on the tapes was his blocking ability and his aggressiveness which are outstanding. But you may have revealed the true reason for some of the absolutely false assertions by some on this thread...the "residual anti-Evangel bias". I was certainly hopeful that mess was over with, when a certain Louisiana (2 star) player turned down Mac Brown's offer in favor of LSU and helped us win a NC.

THey work out for Boise and Utah but not for LSU. Could it be player development?
Neither of these teams recruits in the Top 20 but utah trumped us last year and Boise was way ahead of us the last 2 years.

I have heard more than enough lies and rumors about this kid to suite my taste today. But everything I have researched myself about the kid says he should get an offer from LSU and other top tier programs. His is truly a case of falling between the cracks and creases of recruiting. I think he'll be successful where ever he goes, especially now that he has something to prove. Good luck to him.

No.

I think we're going to land Fobbs after his visit to A&M this weekend and then Boone. We'll take Thomas if either Boone or Fobbs don't commit, which IMO, its looking like they are.

No reason for LSU to hurry up and take Thomas, he doesn't have many, if any offers right now...they can probably slow play him all they want.
