I think both sides have good points (how's that for showin a pair?).
Give Miles the benefit of the doubt...but recognize that we'd prefer avoiding the necessity of doing so....

quote:I understand your concern, but I think it is misplaced. Back in the early '90s, when we had Curley the dipshit and Archer the asshat before him, low recruiting rankings were often the result of not being able to land guys with real talent. Nowadays, we are atop the college football world, and can clearly attract top notch talent. So when we sign some kid out of nowhere with minimal hype and less buzz, there's good reason to be confident that the coaches are just spotting a diamond in the rough or that the kid is a true stud that has flown under the radar for some reason. Bottom line, Les has proven the ability to sign and deliver top notch talent. So when he signs somebody, regardless of the recruiting ranking, it's a safe bet the kid is solid.
And don't kid yourselves flamers, you know you are hoping to finish high in the recruiting rankings

He could become a Herman Johnson/Andrew Whitworth or Brad Smalling?

I want some 5 Star depth.

Spare me the Jacob Hester argument as well...I want to change my son's name to Jacob Hester Billiot, but we all know he is the exception.
Come on, really? Hester was the Louisiana 5A offensive POY. Why rantards debase the guy because he didn't have the appropriate number of stars is unbelievable! Seems like rantards put more importance on what recruiting services perceive than the judgment of coaches who have actually seen the guy on the field.

never pursued this kid very hard. I dont know why. He looks like a good athlete. At one time word was he was waiting on a Bama offer that never came, as far as i know. dont know what the story was, Anyway, i wish him well...

And this dude is sloth-like. Not saying he isn't a good pick-up, just 5.3 does seem a touch slow.
Trust me, 5.27 for a monster of that size is not even close to slow. He can prolly firm up and drop 20 pounds and run a sub 5.1 and that would be amazing for that size.

He is not ranked because he did not send in film to every recruiter or rivals until late, Miles has known about him for quite a while! He has multiple school recruiting him but he was not interested so why would they offer if there was not chance he would go, he wanted LSU from the beginning

Hester was a 3 star coming out of High School. I believe in Les!

i didn't realize miles recruited hester...
look just because you believe in your coach doesn't mean your never allowed to disagree with him, and yes, this guy may have great potential, from a physical standpoint, but judging by his film, i'm pretty disappointed that we offered in a season with a lot more interested quality players than spots available. his footwork is slow and uncoordinated, he comes out of his stance high, and he quit before the play was over three or four times, which is a pretty good indication of on-field attitude, something that can't be coached. He's playing against alabama private schools - Some of the lineman look around two hundred pounds. It's not a complete headscratcher, because the potential is surely there, but i would have been happier with at least a greyshirt. who knows, maybe if we oversign they will

You are a DA. why wouldyou talk about something you know nothing about. Houston Academy is in with the public schools and his opponents were usually 240 to 300lbs....anyway whatever you wanna think..it's evident your challenged

I think that the staff must REALLY like this kid's ability/size/potential because I would have thought that if they had any doubts the coaches wouldn't have taken his committment until at least after the camp this week or saw him workout again. Just a humble opinion.

I am happy to side with our coaching staff and against our clueless ranter talent evaluation committee.

You know what I mean..
I'm just saying that too much emphasis can be put on how many stars a kid has. It is evident looking back at 3 star guys...
*Chevis Jackson
*Tyson Jackson
*Brandon LaFell
*Jonathon Zenon
*Keith Zinger

saw this kid tonight with some other players, they say he can play right now in the SEC. body is there, conditioning is there, even the mindset is there. and until recently, i didnt realize it was that much of an issue, but some of the guys playing oline dont have the mentality that coach stud wants. this kid does.
Posted on 7/20/08 at 9:13 am to Monk
Agreed.Plus, his job is to whip the arse of the man within 3 yards of him....every play. He doesn't need tight end speed to do that .He needs a brain, good feet and a tough mentality. Somebody smarter than us believes he has these tools.Enough said. We need to be happy we got him before someone else. And, if he has speed to cut off a linebacker or get down field, all the better.
