In a state like Louisiana, there's nothing wrong with a strategy of targeting players who "just missed" the cut for committable LSU offers (the in-state powerhouse).
Oklahoma State and Mizzou have been putting some good players on the field using a similar strategy in Texas.

Wouldn't recruiting Texas better be a much better strategy? Getting only 2 of the top 20 prospects in your home state is just abysmal.

We don't separate Tezas and Louisiana recruiting. We consider it all in state and go fir the best available.
And if you think A&M only has 2 of the Texas top 20 committed than I can't help you

I am saying that you should focus on Texas because each year the Aggies get raped in state for top talent. it does not make sense to me why the Aggies lose so much instate talent.

Dude I was just going by rivals rankings.

Do you really think we are neglecting Texas recruiting? We haven't recruited as well as we should have because we haven't won as much as we should have. We have one 9 win season and we have the the top players in Houston committed including two 5 stars in Trey Williams and Matt Davis per Scout.
But when Shreveport is closer to A&M than it is to LSU and New Orleans is as close as Lubbock why wouldn't we recruit Louisiana when per capita it has the best athletes in the nation? That would be a mistake on our part. And it's a mistake Fran made. RC Slocum (McNeese alum) and Sherman have always recruited Louisiana.
A&M just needs a stronger presence in deep east Texas and Dallas now

Point taken, but when it depends on which part of town you're starting from, then it ain't really closer.

I didn't actually google map it. Eye ball test. Im not sure about NO and Lubbuck either. I think it's about a 7 HR drive either way. But all the athletes are in the east side of Texas and Louisiana. Not much talent is coming out of West Texas despite what Friday Night Lights depicts

Aw, come on BigKat, you know we got that walk-on RB, "Smash" Williams or something. I saw it on TV.

I am all for Sherman and company recruiting LA just as hard as TX. There has got to be something in the water that LA athletes drink because some of them are on another level. Especially the big boys in the trenches

quote:Otis Jacobs is from LA (now in JUCO in MS) and is committed to A&M as well. He might be the best of the four La recruits currently verballed to A&M.
Darion Monroe,Alonzo Williams, and now Jullien Obioha(don't know if there is anyone that I missed)
...and don't forget the brief "committments" from Lorenzo Phillips, Jerald Hawkins, and Devante Bourque
also, side note: Alonzo Williams moved from Abbeville to somewhere in California. We'll see if he blows up out west and stays with the Aggies.
seriously though, A&M is going to make good use of some of the La recruits that LSU passed on. Pat Lewis being the best so far, by far; he's been starting on their OL since he was a freshman. LaMothe contributes there. Jonathan Stewart contritutes a little bit. They expect Ivan Robinson and Floyd Raven to be players as well.

Some rumors are going around that he has committed to A&M.
Let me guess, they told him he's the next Von Miller.

Where are you getting these rankings....??? A&M has at least 5 (probably 7 or 8) of the top 20 players in Texas.... need to take a look at all the recruiting service's rankings to get a better assessment. Trey Williams, Matt Davis, Bralon Addison, Corey Thompson, & Jordan Richmond are absolutely top 20 players in Texas! Probably about to get another for sure top 20 player in Dalton Santos.... But back to LA recruiting... we are just getting started in LA according to Sherman

Nobody cares, get the frick off our boards. God TAMU fans are annoying. I think you guys litter the recruiting board more than any other opposing fan.

Just playin' with ya deuce. No disrespect but in all seriousness Sherman has made it known he will continue to push LA recruiting harder and harder.... it will only get worse if we join SEC... LA has plenty to go around.... remember we have to compete for in-state recruits with Texas, TX Tech, TCU (now more than ever... not so much in the past), OU, & Ok State.... (Oklahoma schools have always had a huge presence in TX.... so essentially they are consider in state in some regards)
LSU has the of luxury of being the only school in LA worth a crap

McNeese St dammit!
Vest, I'm on the mobile and can't see your profile but I'm assuming you're new. Good to see you. But let's stick to recruiting talk. We don't need to brag, nor do we have room to brag TBH.
This is a great board though to follow SEC and LSU recruiting if you're interested in that as well as the La players we recruit
