I’ll see if I can find out what his number was.

Huge addition! This kid is said to be a sharpshooter

Catch and shoot three point specialist. Definitely something we needed. I’ll take it.
Posted on 5/2/25 at 1:25 pm to DhanTigers212
Shot 39.8% the last two seasons on 3.7 attempts per game. I believe only 5 guys shot that well in the SEC this season. Was behind Haggerty and Hunter at Memphis so he’ll be able to get more shots up here.

That puts Lsu at 12. I can't imagine adding anyone else significant unless an RS is planned for one of the FR.

Been told we’re getting one more guy overseas, probably a wing. I believe the staff trusts Reece in the backup PG role.

Maybe Lsu should have signed Haggerty instead

There is no stopping this roster. I think McMahon has really done it !

Probably gonna start WW3 here, but looks like he’s going with Wade to state lol

Haggerty had a very high price from what I heard. Don't think we had the funds to sign him.

I am sure we got outbid but at some point you step away. But this is a very typical thing LSU fans do…
This kid is ranked below 3 other transfers and closely ranked near Nwoko. We are hyping him because we didn’t get him.
I would have loved to have had him, especially since it is bare bones, but besides youth, how is he better than King or Sutton? Honest question. Worse competition by far, worse ranking…if King and Sutton are so mid why is this guy so much better?

Haggerty was going to be $3m+
Wade publicly said he told NCSU he wouldn’t come unless they would make NIL similar to Unc and Duke to compete. They are doing that. They are going to be abysmal in footbsall but about to start a top 10 perennial basketball program

All we heard this offseason was all this money we had to go out and spend now in the portal and now Creighton comes in already with a pretty strong class and got this guy away from us, the staff wants people to believe we didn't like him, which seems absurd considering his performance as a FRESHMAN; we simply got outbid, and by Creighton who already clearly spent some money themselves.
To me, this feels like we got sold a bit of false goods when we're told we're going out and spending all this money and essentially it feels like we got 1 really good player out of all of it (Thomas). A lot of questionable or cheaper mid-major takes for sure, some which might work out, others more an afterthought. But point here is we clearly have run out of NIL at this point taking guys like Carter, Tamba and will probably waste the last spot on some international guy who will do nothing here next season.

Huh?
On3 has Harper #87 while the industry has him #103. Nobody else is close to him in our class outside of Thomas obviously ranked higher.

Again, just look into Harpers numbersand see the dude can absolutely play, he tore up 3 really good teams this year (outside the MEAC). Can we say that about anyone else really we have? Also, he most certainly not ranked worse, guess depends on what you look at, but only a moron would rank that guy around Nwoko
Sutton is a sub 30% shooter and King shot 32% from 3. This guy shot over 40% from 3, again, as a freshman. Grabbed over 6 boards a game, very close to Sutton despite being a guard/wing, not forward. Averaged over 3 assists a game. The dude is extremely well rounded player and has GREAT size for a guard/wing at 6'7-6'8 210. He clearly has a very high ceiling where as you wonder if Sutton/Kind are already there basically as they have their deficiencies each. This kid is really good just about everywhere and turned 19 years old this past season, not a 21-22 year old. I dont know how anyone could remotely have him lower ranked than anyone but Thomas in our class. It just makes no sense. Dude is a big time good looking all around prospect.

I’m not arguing or debating about getting outbid. We don’t have as much money. That is obvious. It is frustrating but it is reality. We don’t know Harper’s number for signing, but seeing how it was strung out and going back and forth, he ran that thing up. Creighton is more desperate than we are because…well no one here cares about basketball. That is their sport and they must get better
I was using 247 for transfers. Regardless, if you use on3 or 247 it proves that different people have different opinions on these guys.
I was just using Nwoko as an example. I do not think he is Harper, but be honest…If a guy like Nwoko played in the MEAC, tell me he wouldn’t put up ABSURD numbers. Dude put up 10 and 10 in 16 minutes against Prairie View…again, just using him as an example comparing to weak competition. Jordan Sears played in a better league and was a god…the list goes on and on
I don’t care about his 2 random games against teams that don’t care and figuring out rotations. Parker Edwards put up 18 points against LSU in like 10 minutes. Or alabama state had dudes go off this year.

Thunderbird, the issue here is you're locking into one side of the court. I'm going to throw some numbers out here, but Harper was an absolute defensive mess at Howard. His defensive bpr was -1.95, to put that in perspective that would have placed him with the 2,896th worst defensive bpr in the game, out of 2,983 rated players. That would have placed him in the 97th percentile of worst defenders in college basketball last season.
and again, that is at Howard. He would have been played off the floor at LSU.
Even with his offensive ability he was 2,415st in BPR because he was so poor defensively. Harper was dead last on the Howard roster in +/- last season.
To compare to other guys we added this offseason (and Howard's BPR was -1.19, #2415 in the country):
Dedan Thomas: +2.79, #563
Rashad King: +1.47, #1098
Michael Nwoko: +1.22, #1208
Marquel Sutton: +1.13, #1258
Max Mackinnon: +1.03, #1305
PJ Carter: +0.95, #1349
Pablo Tamba: -0.46, #2142
To put it into more perspective, Curtis Givens was -0.39 and #2108.
Harper was worth a look, and he was worth a roster spot if he was cheap. But LSU clearly (correctly) set a value on him and Creighton surpassed that value. LSU made the right decision.

Update on this overseas guy:
This is gonna be our last pick up. Hornsby is actually a pretty good comparison. Kinda like a Santiago Vescovi type. Great shooter and I think this one can do a little more with the ball in his hands. Should be done pretty soon.

If he’s anything like Vescovi that’s a good get

I love a good Eastern Block shooter. Illinois went heavy on former Yugoslavia guys and I love it
