Even if Sam Houston is not a top-tier opponent, Ford did EXACTLY (if not surpassed) what you would expect a blue-chipper to do:
-Run for almost 350 yards and score 5 TD's
The dude is a beast!

FWIW, I think it is pretty comical the double standard set around here. Let me preface it by saying I think Ford is a stud, and will be a good runningback in college...that said.
When it was said on here that TR ran for over 400 yards in a game, a large contingent on this very forum said that, that had more to do with competition he was facing rather than talent alone. Ford goes for over 350, and he's an all-american.

When TR switches to LSU, the double standards will stop, I promise.

If TR would grace us with his presence, the double standards will stop, I promise. But, that is not likely to happen because Miles will not be able to beat Saban head up for an OOS star player, especially one already committed to Saban. So, until it happens, it will much more fun to speculate and pump up players we know we have a chance with to improve their ranking...because we all know Miles isn't on Saban's level.
Congrats philter.

TR is a great back. We wouldn't be after him if he wasn't. Both Ford, and TR will have great college careers no matter where they go.

He scored on runs of 34, 32, 72, 43 and 6 yards. And ... for those who think Leesville looked bad tonight, they were tired and sluggish. Remember they played two football games in four days and have traveled four straight weeks going back to the scrimmage.
As a tidbit, he broke Cecil Collins' school record for rushing yards in a game.
Thanks - I had terrible reception on my stupid radio and sometimes could not hear it at all. I knew he had three TDs but missed the others.
And thank GOD we can get CCs name off the LHS record books.

It's hilarious to me that bamalover called Sam Houston weak competition.
A playoff team most year and probably this year.
Anyhow, this qb1126897548973534 is a fricking douchebag also. I honestly think he has some sort of personal issue with Ford. Something outside of critiquing his game.

Leesville had never beaten Sam Houston before
Wrong. Leesville used to arse rape Sam Houston especially when Collins was there. Maybe the kids meant their class has never beaten SH before.

Ford said it was good to get a win over Sam Houston as they play them every year and they have not beaten them since Ford has been going to Leesville. From the competition standpoint, Sam Houston is usually a lot better than Leesville. So the putting up stats against weaker competition arguement is pretty weak. Also, he still will be going against weaker competition when he plays his games at LSU!

because someone said he was shying away from contact against WM
Nah, that was Stallworth, like you said in a later post. This is what I said about Ford:
quote:
Weird...he initiated contact against WM last week. He lowered his shoulder every time he got the ball.
Posted on 9/11/08 at 7:33 am to WampusCat56
the hell he didnt shy away some of the times. a couple of times he had a chance to run the guy right over and he chose to run around him only to be arm tackled. now he did a great job of breaking many of the arm tacklers but he didnt punish anybody except of the 6 yard td run. and right before they got the ball on the 6 he had 3 tries inside the 8 to get the ball in and failed.
now he is a great back. i was jst pointing it out. he had a great game and i was really impressed but every player has things they can work on and thats one of his. just because he is mike ford doenst mean i cant break him down and find something to work on. but leesville doesnt run any smash mouth so that could be one of the reasons. i know he played just saturday so they could also be why or it could have been because the field was really bad. i dunno i was just stating what i saw. its not a slam of mf as he is a great back.
now he deserves his 4 stars and will be a great back for lsu. my favorite thing about him is how coachable he is. ur coach a couple times pulled him to the side and told him to do this or that and he listened the whole time and had zero attitude the whole game. i loved that about him. also he was great at breaking arm tackles the whole game.
but i will say he is about where he needs to be in the rankings. i know many where worried about his speed, dont be. and his burst reminds me so much of cecil. he burst throught the line better then anybody i have seen in a long time. he is also huuuuuuge. really really thick legs. can tell he works his arse off in the weight room.
if i had to grade the game i would give him a 9.5/10. great game and player but he isnt flawless.
now the teams were badly coached. how many times did leesville not roll to the trip motion? how many times did the dline not read the screen? every damn time. sh ran the qb keep on the zone read prolly 25 times in the game and not once did they roll to the motion. the dline was the worst coached i have seen. not once did they recognize the screen. now shhs has zero discpline and also is lacking talent big time.

Considering they have to play Alabama every year, you're correct.

Maybe the coaches told him this past week after watching film that he has to stop initiating contact on every carry like he did against WM or he won't make it through the season.

I keep forgetting this is tigerdroppings ... where logic and observation go to die.

Ever figure out who this qb11284 kid is? I'm serious when I say I think he has some sort of personal vendetta with Ford. He does nothing but bash him and after reading everything he's posted, I don't really have any idea why.
Posted on 9/11/08 at 7:50 am to JJ27
wouldnt surprise me. its not that he didnt the whole game. on the short td run he absolutely destroyed 3 guys. it was more like he told his team get out my way ill just do it myself.
Posted on 9/11/08 at 7:55 am to CajunRocks
Cajunrocks i hope u were talking about me as i was extremly fair in my assessment. i didnt point anything the other 4 people( who are coaches) didnt point out also or didnt agree with me about. but like i said take everything i said with a grain of salt because i dont know what the coaches told him or if the field bothered him or he was tired or what.
plus it was only one game. doesnt mean he does it every game. i gave him props on all the positives i saw and they far out weighed the negatives.

Pretty simply to figure out...
Ford is going to LSU
TR to Bama
We see the world thru different lenses.
As For Bama's future, Saban will not have the same success he had at LSU for many reasons we don't need to go into right now, but I am glad you have something to be excited about..
After losing to ULM, going 7-6 last year, 0-6 against your in state rival must really suck for the All Time wins Trophy program ever.
I am sure TR will turn the Tide all by himself...

wonder if this hurts our chances of a 3rd RB

lsu777 .. you're cool. I wasn't referring to you. You have a fair assessment.
Mike was gassed in this game. He got hit hard in the West Monroe game, which is a credit to his strength and motivation to have the game he did against Sam Houston.
