JJ will play next season even if it is a RP type role from the '07 year.

LSU recruits the #1 dual threat QB in the nation who ran this offense his entire high school career yet, JJ will be used in that role? There is so much wrong with this...God I hate what this staff has done to Shep.

Honestly I don't think Shep could physically handle running the read option in college. He is just not big enough. JJ has the frame to absorb the hits and I don't think Shep does.

But he can go across the middle running slants? He took way more hits in the slot than he did running the ball. Not a dig at you at all. Just an observation.

Hate to break it to you, but maybe Shep is an elite athlete..but just a good QB, good RB, and a good WR.

He looked better in his limited action running the option than JJ ever has.

Thats the only role I would like seeing him in

The offense needs to be ran completely identical to that of the 2007 offense.

I don't know if Mett is better than Jefferson, I have no way to find out now. But Jefferson/Mett(whoever wins the starting job) should ONLY be in for passing situations. I know plays break down, and you can scramble. Shep should be in for the Perriloux role

If Mett had a legitimate chance to beat out Aaron Murray, then that says something

Aaron Murray is the real deal and could be the best QB in the SEC next year

Can't wait until LSU implements the new schedule with a month between games. Les will never lose another game
and we need to move our home games inside on some turf- i guess the superdome will have to do.

Dude he will take WAY more hits as a every down QB running the read option than as a slot WR.

I'm gonna have to disagree with you big time on that one.

quote:

Sorry but maybe JJ's best attribute as a QB is running and read option. But he is not a great read option quarterback. He to better as a read option as the season went along but it is not natural for him. He does not run with eyes looking down field.

This is true. JJ is athletic, but he is not a runner. He presents a mediocre threat as a runner, but he really has no skill at it. Not only does he miss cuts that would gain him big yardage, but when the first tackler gets within 5 yards, he cringes away instead of gaining an additional 4-7 yards or more.

He is a horrible option QB. It seem like he often randomly decides who is going to get the ball before the play even starts.....evidences by the MANY times he was crushed at the LOS or pitched to a TB for a loss or fumble. The most amazing thing is that he never learned the most fundamental thing about the option. You have to make the defender CHOOSE. If you mosey in a big loop toward the sideline, then the DE/OLB/SS can split the difference and can pressure or make the tackle on the QB or follow the ball and attack the pitch man. You can't go backwards and you can't go slow. You have to ATTACK DOWN THE LINE, never taking your eyes off the defender. If he comes after you, pitch. If not, you turn it up. Forcing that defender to choose is what allows the play to work.

I really hope that Mettenberger starts this upcoming season. I, personally think that that Jefferson has made a few decent runs, but more often than not, he has botched the play, gotten tackled for a loss, or not made a 1st down because of he total lack of awareness.

People are crowning him the starter for 2011 when, in truth, at least 2 of his TD passes in the Cotton Bowl lacked any definitive skill on his part. He just chucked the ball up ( overthrowing once ) and had a talented WR who was able to make the play. Those 3 TD passes did not give me any comfort to believe that JJ will be able to put together a decent passing attack in 2011.

The best scenario for us would be to have Mett start and Shepard play the Perrilloux role. That could take us to the BCS NCG.

This is what I see happening as well Steve. The wild cat has proven to be a viable part of college offenses given the right personnel to run them. Like RP, JJ could have defenses guessing when he enters the game. After watching Mettenberger perform a couple of times I'd be shocked if he doesn't break right into the lineup by the fall.

Lsu doesnt want to be a read option offense. Thats why none of our QBs on the roster are read option QBs, including JJ. You wouldnt hire an OC that had no experience in the read option, have him implement it for one guy and then go pack to a pro style. Plus not being able to throw the ball and being black does not make you a read option QB.
