I almost mentioned him

He has the size and speed to step in and play right away IMO. It'd just be a matter of learning the system.

You think Martavious Lee is a possibility?

he's probably more of an option than Kenbrell Thompkins or Thompson, whichever it is. But I think with Lee he had to clear some academic hurdles before he was really going to be an option. But then again, what JUCO players don't have academic hurdles to clear?

I haven't heard much since he switched from a Mississippi Juco to a Texas Juco.

Recruiting expert I am not, but if Blackmon pulls a "Janzen" on us on signing day (by switching to Auburn or another school), we're really up shite creek w/o a paddle unless we score big on a JUCO DT who can contribute immediately.

No room for errors or allowance for injuries in 2010 for LSU DTs.

He's only had two total JC games and his team is pretty bad. No idea how he looked though.

We have QB's on the roster and 1 new commit. Wouldn't you think a shot gun approach going after every top 20 DL in the country would be better than hoping get the one or two guys we offer.

Depth will be:

Nevis - SR - I hope he doesn't go pro or LSU is in trouble.

Hicks - SR -

Downs - Soph.

Davenport - RSFreshman

Blackmon - True Freshman

That looks like problems to me if Nevis goes to the NFL. We can rotate 4 guys with very little experience. Any injury and LSU is in trouble. This is a recruiting problem for LSU.

THIS.

Moreover, throw in the fact that of the two biggest D-line prospects in the 2011 class, one is already committed to another SEC school and the other is considered a lean to Texas. This is without a doubt, the most critical point of our recruiting right now and in the near future. If you do not have a talented and deep D-line you will not win the SEC.

All I can say is to me our Dline recruiting sucks. We go get all the skilled guys we want but if the dline sucks and has no depth it won't matter because the offense will never see the field and the DB's will get worn out because we can't stop the run and we can't rush the passer. Is this going to be the future of our defense? There is absolutely no reason to have subpar dline recruiting. This is on Miles.

Umm, no, the DL recruiting of the last staff sucked. People like you were busy jacking off over overrated prospects like Corley, Hagans, Blackwell, and Jason Peters; while that staff wasn't smart enough to see better prospects that didn't have as many stars.

This staff actually knows what they are doing. They offered Logan and Sentimore, while the previous staff didn't. They found Blackmon, who has a lot of ability. They aren't going to offer mediocre prospects like the last staff did, just bc they look good on paper. The worst thing to do is to offer players who won't ever help LSU win an MNC. Another example is they were smart enough to see that Porter was an OL, not a DL.

We are going to hit the JUCO ranks for DTs and WRs before this class is finished.

We have a stronger need there than any other position since I started following recruiting close 4-5 years ago. It is inevitable that some "new names" pop up and we get commitments from guys that we have never heard of before--happens every single year.

What's the point in hitting Jucos if you find another Hicks?

They should have offered Bonolomo, and then move Lavar Edwards or Aghayere inside.

We def need some good DTs. Our Dline depth sucks right now. When Miles got here we could go 3 deep along the Dline with 4/5 stars. Now we have 2 RSfreshman and a true freshman getting way too much PT. I dont know how he managed to destroy our depth.

Wasn't Corley a high 4*? Blackwell too? The ratings don't matter, the quality of player does.

Rivals 100

I said the entire time that Blackwell looked like an OG.

I like him, I think he could be a solid DT in the SEC. But at the same time, Chuck Hunter is better than him as a Junior, and Mickey Johnson from St. Paul's very well may be as well. Obviously, Freak Johnson is.

The reason I bring that up is I doubt that Jones will ever be much of a pass rusher. Maybe the staff is more looking for a DL who can get heat on the passer, since they can get the run stuffers next year.

That's why I don't mind if the final DL spot goes to a DE like David Perry, since Edwards/Aghayere could always move inside. Edwards is going to be a big dude.

Hicks got hurt, so he fell behind in the rotation. Downs has played very well so far.

And I think Jordan Allen is going to play DT. And one of the LBs from last year will move to DE.

If Aghayere can handle the extra weight then yeah.
