I would say Faulk as well... Its great to pull a guy like PP out of FL and that is allowing us to cherry pick a few OOS commits..

But our recruiting base is LA...And as long as we can keep that fence around the boot and secure most of the top 15... LSU will be an elite team

I don't know about that.

It's got to be Faulk though. He was the big name recruit that reversed the trend of big name players leaving Louisiana. If not for him, we wouldn't have had Bradi James, L. Toefield, R. Mealey, D. Beckwith, Corey Webster, E. Doucet, G. Dorsey, , etc. who lead to big time OOS recruits like J. Russell, M. Flynn, R. Shepard and yes, Patrick Peterson.

And although Peterson may lead us to Avery and possibly Nacho. We have done decent in Florida over the years with D. Bowe, X. Carter, R. J. Francois, A. Highsmith, J. Corbin, E. McCoy, etc. prior to Peterson.

Not PP, he is just one of the best players ever here, but not the biggest or most important recruit. IMO, that goes to Faulk, dude totally got the whole program back in gear. Was the best player on all of his teams and made it "cool" for the best kids in this state to go to LSU again. PP is the man, probably the best DB ever here, if not the best then one of, but he is not the most important.

everyone knows Patrick won't even be here when he gets on campus

LSU is still the school he knows best and is most comfortable with at this point. With time and visits, he could find he likes another school better. I'd rather be us than anybody else in this situation though, that's for sure

Probably would have gone to Miami, Florida State or Michigan had Kevin Faulk not come to LSU.

Dinardo knew he had to start keeping the top La. kids in Louisiana to win. If you go back to the late 80's, early 90's, schools like Miami & Fl. St. were cleaning up in Louisiana; don't think they don't owe a lot of their wins (and Championships)to kids from Louisiana.

Faulk IMO

the big 3 from 01 were big as well

Herb Tyler gets honorable mention. maybe not a high caliber recruit, but a black QB from NO (that actually got to play QB) was huge.

PP may be the best player, but the team doesn't have much hardware during his tenure. He will be an All American this year, but unless we make a run, he would have only taken part in one Bowl win, and zero BCS bowls. So unless things change, it would be hard to argue him as the biggest/Most Important IMO. Now if he house 4-5 returns and a few pick6's, and we win the SEC Championship game, and he wins the Heisman, well OK.

Rohan Davey was the turning point for LSU. He was a Miami kid who took a chance on LSU. Prior to Rohan who from Miami or Florida, worth a damn, was looking at LSU. Many Florida kids have followed. Rohan coupled with a local talent like Josh Reed put us on the map.
If we can keep grabbing a few talented kids from Florida and Texas we will have top five classes for a long time. Those guys together with all the talent from Louisiana should compete for championships.
