quote:If you have Noot, Shores and Anderson all another year in, you may have the weekend rotation right there. Pearson, Milam, Braswell, Brown, Larson are a nice core who played well in SEC play and beyond. Hernandez and Stanfield should step in and be ready to go. If you get 18-20 out of Hernandez you have a net gain in offense from the C position, IMO you just need to add one more hitter that can do damage. Hell, I would be fine with some speed on the basepaths, I think Brown takes a big step next year, and if Milam and Larson add 4-5 homers each you take a nice chunk out of the loss of Jones and White with Hernandez and his production.
Not sure you realize how great Chase Shores is and can be if he is recovered. He is a top 15 overall type of talent.

You definitely never know what you’re getting when they come from Dayton, Indiana St etc. Occasionally you get Sonny DiChiara, but most of the time they aren’t coming into the SEC and having the same production
A&M's top 2 hitters this year in terms of average were from Columbia and Penn.
There's plenty of success coming from lower ranks into the SEC, sure there are guys who dont translate, but it's a complete mixed bag and you dont have the data to backup your claim there.
In terms of portal rankings last year from 64analytics, Jusitn Loer was the #13 overall player in the portal and Kade Woods was the #32 overall player. Gage Jump, who was an elite pitcher for us this season and weekend starter, was #1,340.
On the hitters side Mac Bingham was #30 overall, while Braswell was #360 overall. Obviously dont have to explain how all that worked out but the lower ranked guys outplayed the higher ranked guys in these cases by a lot.
Fact is you dont definitely know what you're getting until it happens. Was anyone saying A&M would be led in average by 2 Ivy League transfers before the season? Probably not.
Were you telling everyone when Gage Jump transferred here he would be an elite arm and drafted highly? My guess is probably not.

These players are pretty known commodities, they may not perform...but as you pointed out, Bingham should have been a lock and he struggled. It is a crap shoot. But a guy that has been to 3 CWS, has a title and seems to have his teams always playing their best ball in the late season should be trusted.

The rotation will be fun to figure out but I doubt it's those 3 with all the arm talent we are bringing in. Noot is the guy I question the most because just honestly dont hear much about him even though he was healthy enough to pitch in a game back in April (and did)...apparently injuring himself right after with an ankle issue. But we got some really nice arms coming in right now that will certainly factor in, and you have to consider Herring as well for a rotation spot if he's back.
We'll certainly have some big time talent on the team once again next season. Jay is not messing around just waiting for some guys to develop, he has hit the portal, JUCO ranks hard and the freshman class could be his best ever depending on who makes it in.

Yep it's a complete mixed bag, you just never know.
Tennessee's top transfer by rankings (64analytics) wasnt actually Amick this past offseason, it was Cannon Peebles from NC State. People will quickly forget that because Peebles frankly SUCKED this season, hit just over .200. He came from NC State/ACC where as a freshman hit over .350 and 12 HR in only 142 AB. He was the #3 overall player in the portal, seemed like a sure fire easy super star...and totally tanked this season at Tennessee. There's definitely no secret formula to success in the portal about where guys come from or even what they've done in the immediate past. You have some guys who have done nothing ranked really low blow up at their new spot and guys like Peebles who dominated top competition already go somewhere else and completely disappear just about.

Jay has a CWS title, and took a rebuild year
Wait wait wait. His best players were literally Maineri/Cain recruits and the rest of the key contributors were no-brainers he purchased from the portal with Lipseys money

Tell me about Mainieri's recruitment of Skenes.
Or Riley Cooper.
Or Tommy White.
Because we don't win the CWS without them.
Just like we don't win it without the guys that were here.
Any argument to take credit away from Jay for the championship is dishonest. You'd feel bad for making such an argument if you weren't so incredibly stupid.

64analytics rankings are wild.
I think Neal was a top 20 transfer and the guys has a career SEC batting average of .148

A&Ms 3 best hitters in the heart of that order are studs. All MLB future R1 picks
Also everyone was touting Jump last year. Kendall Rogers said he would be LSUs best arm. TJ is the only reason he was off the radar for some.

likely Herring
Wouldn't call that likely he's leaving...If he is a solid weekend starter his value goes way up. He knows this.

Give me Lipseys checkbook and I could buy Tanks and Skenes too. LSU was fortunate to mobilize NIL money before others but Jay was just the benefactor not the genius there
We all know Cooper was a role player. Every SEC team has that kind of piece.

Exactly. Keep the troll posts on the rant. The RB used to be one of the few places on this site you could get actual information without the morons chiming in.

Too bad for Jay that others have caught up in the space and now he’s having to rely on his high school evals and recruiter more
33% hosting and 33% getting to the supers since at LSU. If one is being objective, odds are that number decreases again in 2025 by looking at the current roster. They will need to get fortunate in the draft and portal.

When he entered he was the #10 overall guy which I thought was...optimistic to say the least
Dutton was in the Top 35 as well.
It's incredibly difficult to rank portal players, as just their last year rankings will indicate. I think overall they do as good a job as anyone, but certainly there will be misses. Hard to think of Dutton as a top 50 overall player out of the 5000 in the portal though
But A&M got Schott from Columbia who was ranked #188 and Appel from Penn who was ranked #333, so mostly afterthought types from the portal, and they led the team in batting average this year for them.

You say bad faith here. I say p&g colored glasses there.

Nobody has any idea what the roster will be in a couple months at the moment, the draft needs to happen and portal activity needs to conclude. We're nowhere close to understanding what the roster will be right now
