That's total BS. Miles really liked Williams and did everything he could to get him to run to space - Williams simply couldn't do it...2-star vision for a 5-star athlete.

By the way, I wouldn't count Jai Eugene out yet, because he'll be the other guy (opposite PP) at corner next season - he could totally break-out in his senior year. He'll be working hard this off-season and doing everything he can to insure his draft stock.

We had three five star recruits in 2006. Keiland Williams, Jai Eugene and Al Woods

2006 had quite a few hits & misses for all of college football.

ESPN had a breakdown of that class. It was their first one to rate.

here's what they said about Eugenge:
quote:

After redshirting in 2006 and playing as a reserve in 2007, Eugene has primarily been utilized as a starting corner for the Tigers. He has 69 career tackles and one interception during his career in Baton Rogue.

Woods:
quote:

Woods had 16 career starts for LSU as an interior D-lineman. His most successful season was his senior campaign in 2009, during which he started all 13 games and posted 33 tackles. He is ranked as the No. 10 defensive tackle prospect in this year's NFL draft class.

Mustain:
quote:

Mustain started eight games for the Razorbacks as a freshman but elected to transfer to USC following the 2006 season. After sitting out a year, he played behind future NFL first-round pick Mark Sanchez and saw action in eight games for the Trojans. In 2009, Mustain was behind freshman Matt Barkley and redshirt sophomore Aaron Corp, who has since transferred, on USC's depth chart. He'll be a senior in 2010.

Lots of hits too: Tebow, Harvin, Stafford, Andre Smith, Kindle, Mays,Snead, McCoy, Reshad Jones, etc.

Look at them:

Gerald Riggs #12 overall
Brandon Jeffries #19 overall
James Banks #30 overall
Jonathan Mapu #34 overall
Robert Meachem #20 overall
Demetrice Morley #21 overall
Eric Berry #3 overall
Chris Donald #18 overall
Ben Martin #20 overall

Besides Eric Berry, did a single one of those guys live up to their hype? Meachem and Riggs had moments, but enough to justify their rankings?

Riggs was a 1000 yard rusher his junior year but a major injury cost him his senior season. Someone else already described Meachem's success for you. Mapu was a fair contributor, perhaps not good as advertised, but good enough for the Washington Redskins. Martin has been a solid contributor the past 2 seasons at DE & will compete for All-SEC this fall. Banks & Morley were extremely talented, but both had trouble with off-field issues. In fact, Morley was kicked off the team by both Fulmer and Kiffin!

The only REAL busts on your list are Jeffries and Donald, who were clearly overrated. I guess you could count Banks & Morley for disciplinary issues.

he averaged 75 carries for four years. 300 touches IMHO does not equate to he 'never got a chance.' Hester and Scott were better at finding seams while Keiland, given a hole, could go house. all three were and are very solid rbs who should find further success in the league.

I agree and I usually point that out, but I think he may have been a net loss even with that.

1 game against LA tech and 1 SECCG don't make a solid contributer.

Leaving LSU high and dry for QB's, leading to two bad years of football is a pretty big negative.

He's pretty close to a wash.

Mustain hands down...especially considering all the drama with the Springdale parents and the Arkansas athletic department! Pretty much cost Nutt his job, the only one who made out in that deal was Mahlzan.

Robert (?) Peace (sp?) should also be a contender. LB from Ruston (father was coaching at LA Tech) who ended going to Tenn. Didn't seem to do much the times LSU played against him at Tenn. Adam McConathy (sp?) as mentioned by earlier poster also comes to mind.

Alonzo Lawrence. 4 star DB, #2 in the nation at his position behind Patrick Peterson and #35 on Rival's top 100. Signed with bama in 2008. Cut from the team last spring.

dee webb. damn good one. one of my best friends is an auburn grad. still beats himself upside the head about trey blackmon. 2 of the biggest recruiting analysts (newberg and the other guy's name escapes me) are based here in atl. lagrange is 1 hr down the road. they said blackmon was best def player they had ever seen in high school.

He was a 4 year starter, finished among the top 10 alltime in receiving yards and TDs at Auburn and was drafted. I think he was also an academic all american.

I wouldn't call that a "bust". A slight disappointment maybe, but not a bust.

And if not fully living up to the hype is the standard of a bust then USC could field an entire lineup of busts that would rival most conferences.
