That's the great point.Wilson isn't asked to recruit nationally or even Texas.Porter was the promary recruiter of Texas for us.hence why Wilson doesn't have the national kids on his resume. He's not asked to go national. His greatest value to LSU as a recruiter is his relationships in LA.Also we don't know what influence he has on kids that visit LSu from OOS.That part of recruiting gets lost when people start talking targets for coaches. Also looking at the posts previously made last year the big reason people questioned his recruiting is because he wasn't at LSU.Wilson's greatest value as a recruiter will always be dependent on being apart of LSU's staff. His success will always be much greater on the LSU staff.Even when he eventually moves up and leaves LSU he will lose a great bit of his effectiveness in LA.He'll get whatever school he's at in the door and the conversation with LA kids but will not be a major thorn in LSU's side.LSU is still going to be LSU.The great majority of the kids instate that we want we'll get.Until LSU takes a nosedive(hopefully it never happens again at least while I'm alive)we will continue to dominate LA recruiting.

his value is much greater being at LSU obviously but taking Freak Johnsons and Jarvis Landrys to Tennessee would be a hell of a thorn in our side.
And he doesn't need to expand shite into Texas to prove anything. Miles could have hired another ace recruiter or two with recent openings but went the BBQ buddy/sideline hand holder route with Ensminger instead of getting someone who could grab top guys out of Texas or Florida.

Doesn't Kragthorpe have TX recruiting ties?

I kind of wonder if he will ever leave LSU. I think he will just continually get very nice raises and get paid as well as the OC/DC here.
So far the "ace recruiter as head coach" experiment has been abysmal (Porter, Orgeron, Locksley).

I agree with that. Wilson doesn't need to be a national recruiter if Miles would land someone else who can recruit.
I don't know about Gonzales but so far he seems a little overrated. It seems he was getting guys at Florida just because it was that, Florida. So far he hasn't even attempted a dent in Florida yet much less any major blue chip guys.
LSU needs a Texas recruiter in the worst way. We still need to recruit some guys OOS. I doubt Kragthorpe fills that Texas recruiting role but we'll see. If we had someone on staff, we probably could take advantage of the Texas situation last year. This year would probably be another year to take advantage of it...but as it is, we didn't really. Texas is too big and too plentiful for us not to make a impact there.

Cooper is another good example

Which is why LSU recruited so well under Archer and Hallman?
With a good coach and decent recruiters, it is certainly easier to recruit to LSU than Miss. State; but great athletes, even if from Louisiana, will not come to LSU just because it is LSU. The same is true for Alabama, Notre Dame, etc. A poor coach and weak recruiting efforts would put LSU in a tailspin, just like they would at any other program.

Janzen Jackson 5*
Deandre Brown 5*
Kentrell Lockett 4*
La'El Collins 5*
Anthony Johnson 5* (committed to him at Tenn.)
Zach Mettenburger top Juco QB
Jarvis Landry 5* (was heading to Tenn. for him)
Odell Beckham 4*
Kenny Hilliard 4*
LSU lost out on only 1 prospect in the state. Wilson was a big part of that.
