Obviously I can't post it here, but Scarborough over on Rivals did an interview with Lance Guidry about the whole situation.
For those of you who are members and haven't read it: Proceed to the article! Do not pass "GO!", do not collect $200.
You won't believe what you're reading. Literally.

I am not really sure how much I would blame the kid. He is still a kid and probably valued his father's blessing. Manhood doesn't automatically get accomplished by turning 18. Some never quite get there all their life.
As a parent, I would hope that I would not be so selfish as to direct my kid's life. Giving some guidance and counsel is one thing. Directing is another. Sounds like the dad was the real prick here. Unfortunately, the kid may suffer for his dad's selfishness.

Kiffin is the snake, hiring the dad solely with the intentions of luring the kid, the kid doesn't come, the dad has no J-O-B, simple as that.

I'm tempted to post the whole damn interview; it's that fricking infuriating.
Suffice it to say that it APPEARS that Janzen wanted to let LSU coaches know, beforehand, that he intended to change his commitment. Guidry plainly states that he discouraged Janzen from doing this to avoid LSU coaches constantly contacting him to change his mind.
Guidry also states that he believes Ron Cooper (the new DB coach at LSU via South Caroline) basically "piggybacked" his entire coaching career off the successes of other coaches. He states that coaching is all about "opportunity and who you know." Likewise, he wonders why Ron Cooper isn't in the NFL...then states the obvious: that Kiffin was. Apparently, that's a big deal to him.
He goes on to state that he felt Knoxville was safer than Welsh (and, by proxy, Baton Rouge). He didn't want Janzen to be in an un-safe environment.
Guidry also lets slip that he could coach anywhere. I'm not making that up...it's word-for-word.
He also stated to Janzen (and I quote):
"You gotta be a big boy, you gotta make a decision, man. This is your future."
After reading that quote, re-read the second paragraph of this post.

Stop it!
It's taking every ounce of my willpower not to copy & paste the whole thing and get banned over it!

Too damn obvious. I've let the cat out of the bag now...at this point, the admins would just assume it was me anyway and be done with it.

Just thought I'd add Ron Cooper's credentials to the thread since, despite the complete & utter bullshite of the entire interview, Guidry's swipe at RC seemed to be the most mean-spirited:
"Ron Cooper comes to LSU from South Carolina where he spent the past five years coaching on the defensive side of the football. As South Carolina’s safeties coach in 2008, Cooper assisted with a defense that ranked No. 1 in the SEC and No. 2 in the nation in pass defense allowing just 160 yards per game.
In between years like most coaching jobs they were a few that were not so great.
Cooper’s 1995 Louisville team led the nation in turnovers forced and finished No. 9 in the nation in scoring defense. A year later, Louisville ranked No. 4 in the country in both total defense and rushing defense.
Alabama A&M hired Cooper as its head coach in 1998, a position he held through the 2001 season. Cooper guided Alabama A&M to the championship game of the Southwestern Athletic Conference in 2000. His 2000 squad led the nation in rushing defense and they ranked No. 8 nationally in scoring defense.
Prior to becoming a head coach at Eastern Michigan, Cooper served as an assistant coach at Notre Dame, helping the Irish to victories in the 1992 Sugar Bowl over No. 3 Florida and in the Cotton Bowl a year later against No. 4 Texas A&M."

Does anyone else want to stab Guidry in the neck with a pen the next time they see him?
Posted on 2/7/09 at 10:31 pm to Come2Conquer
Watch out, talking about a certain someone and their convenient lies and slander can get a thread whacked.

Well, if the admins want to wack a thread over speculation about motives, etc. then I understand.
But, I've only posted what's (literally) come out of the horse's arse.

Sounds like LG was pissed b/c Les didn't offer him the db coaching job, and that's why he's so pissed about Cooper. Sounds like a major arse.

He really does come across that way. Maybe his feelings were different, but the interview smacks of an arrogance that's hard to be believed...and difficult to pawn off to "Oh, it was all taken out of context."

Only a douche would be mad that a coach didn't commit a violation.

From what i gather, sounds awefully bitter towards LSU, especially the Cooper hire. Wonder what the reason is behind that?

As an addendum to the interview, I found the following post on Rivals:
"Mike, I am surprised you forgot the Phelon Jones recruitment and did not mention it to him. When Phelon committed to FL initially his Father called the HCs at the other schools recruiting Phelon and ask them not to contact him again. Miles wished him well and the LSU coaches did not contact him again. LSU wanted Phelon about as much as they wanted JJ but they left him alone at his father's request.
Months later Phelon decided he did not want to go to FL he formally decommitted and his father called Les Miles up and ask him if LSU wanted to recruit him and if LSU had a scholarship available. Miles offered him on the spot. The father told Miles LSU was the only school he called because Miles and LSU were the only ones who had honorred his request to not continue to recruit him.
"
Les Miles = class. You either have it or you don't. Les certainly does!

Are any of you old enough to remember the recruiting of Little Billy Cannon with his Dad's help? Did not turn out well. I have 1st hand knowlege of what a Tenn fan will do. Like dole out BIG BAGS OF $$$$. This came from the BAG MAN...personally. Look for the job for DADDY and the house for MAMMA. Hope some of you follow up on the family.

I remember it well. A&M used to be more hated than Texas to LSU fans. Then Carl Reese happened...
