Not an LSU player, but if i'm not mistaken Demeco Ryans was only about 2 stars. Defensive rookie of the year.

3 star on Rivals. Just looked it up.

A 340 lb OL that ran a 5.2? The time alone should be at least a 3 star should it not? any comments from the experts?

seems like it, especially considering his size. the kid is huge. tulane's 2 star OL is five inches shorter and 62 pounds lighter and also runs a 5.2

Antoine Cason was a 3 stars

Chris Williams was a 2 stars.
Keller - 2 stars
Matt Ryan - 3 stars
Aqib Talib - 2 stars
B. Albert - 2 stars

I don't feel like looking up the rest of the guys.

What we know is that he went to camps at LSU, OM, AU, and Bama. AU has never offered big linemen like that traditionally, it's not part of their philosophy although JW performed relatively well there. Bama evaluated him as a OG and told him they didn't have room for any more guards given their commitments and silents (Steen for example).

Ole Miss had him as their #1 target for the OL, Nutt has a long history of spotting OL undervalued talent and taking it to 1st round draft ability. LSU saw him for a short period of time and coach Stud is 100% sold on his ability, as is Miles who has final say.

No other team has had a chance to see him in person afaik, and his film is of a young man still growing into his coordination and body.

Right on. He must have improved over the summer (as I said earlier) to have impressed Les and Co.

I'm just afraid that this guy has Brad Smalling written all over him.

Thats exactly what I was thinking. I felt that his size alone would get him 3 stars based off potential. Maybe a low 3 star, but a 3 star nonetheless. I though he was a 5.5-5.6 3 star.

I'm glad you changed your tune, when I first proposed why he looked like he did in his film in the initial commitment thread you were not so open to him having possibly improved They have all the information, we have none.

Williford has good upper body strength as an offensive lineman. He has great size and a huge wing span. Comes off the ball high but with good power. Legs don't move like pistons but steadily pushes the defender off the line of scrimmage. Sometimes makes first blow delivery with his chest instead of his hands, needs to learn how to be more violent with the hands and get better extension. Lacks a lot of flexibility in the hips and knees. Solid when double team blocking because of size and power but sometimes loses balance do to being too high. Limited mobility when pulling but does a good job seeking out opponents. Potentially a good pass protector that takes up a lot of space and possesses long arms to create space between himself and the pass rusher. Williford is a strong offensive lineman that will have to play offensive guard because of his limited foot quickness and mobility. Scouts Inc.

He has size and long arms. Two things you cant teach. Les Miles knows offensive lineman and the coaches know how to work on a kids technique. Most experts say that offensive line is the toughest position to evaluate. I say Rivals is wrong. He was rated a 75 on Scouts Inc. Not bad. Certainly Scouts Inc thinks more of him than Rivals.

I'm surprised there were that many 0 and 2 star guys. The percentages over time would say there shouldn't/wouldn't be that many.

3 stars are pretty common...around 9% rate of getting drafted I think (off the top of my head).

except Smalling was like a 4 or 5 star player

i hope Williford is strictly a OT. If he turns out to play G and we passed on Lewis i will be kind of pissed

Acording to the Bama boards Saban is having second thoughts about letting this guy get away. He is still talking to the family.

Project player, we get one in every class. No big deal, he'll probably move up on the rankings now that hes on the radar for scouts. Underrated guy at a small school I presume.

I think Lewis was a Center if LSU had taken him...not sure though.

i just watched his "new" videos on rivals.

he wasnt "unbelievable", but almost every play he pancaked the defender in front of him...not bad. with the right technique and coaching could be a really good one.

i for one think if you have depth already, take a shot on a guy who could be a diamond in the rough. if it doesnt work out, he'll probably transfer in 2 years anyway and free up the scholly
