I felt that way about their meth QB. The one that was so deceptively fast he played WR in the NFL?

Man, I was glad when that cat graduated. Ditto for Leland McElroy (aTm).

Is Martin calling our QB "David Howard?" Thank God we don't have to suffer those JP Alabama games anymore.

I don't think that game bought Curley another year. I think Curley had almost a $200K buyout in 1993. I think if Dean and Davis had their way Curly would have coached through the end of his contract. Buying out Curley in '94 is the big reason we settled on DiNardo.

I was there sitting in the end zone with my dad. I was in 6th grade and unfortunately living in Bammer at the time. I remember making a shirt with puff paint that had the score so I could troll all the kids at the school.

I was at that game, too. Honestly I was afraid we'd get smoked. But I remember in the pre-game our guys were running around whooping it up all pumped and excited. The Bama players were flat as a pancake. Zero emotion. Thought then we might make it close, but never...........

We won 17-13. I think the loss broke a 31 game home win streak for bama. It was one of those dreaded early games. I remember a lot of fans going to the airport to welcome the team back.

Brodhead was on the radio then, in BR, and he railed against Dean on an almost daily basis. He was complimentary of the Dinardo hire - he referred to it as Dean "stumbling, bumbling" into the right decision - that he had, "stuck in his thumb and pulled out a plumb."

Could be relevant to our most recent football HC change, IMHO.

I used to work with Anthony Marshall about 9 years ago. Really laid back guy and loved to talk LSU football. I’d go into his office every week to talk football with him. Pretty cool guy.

Sleepy weekend in Baton Rouge, I watched it a buddy's house on East Boyd. After the game we walked outside and you could hear cars horns honking all over the place.

Fred's was packed by 5pm. A bunch of the players showed up at around 9; it was just a giant, crazy party. A great, great night in an otherwise lame football era.

that's correct. Barker and Sherman Williams got hurt early, David Palmer couldn't move the ball on the LSU D. Ala did nothing on offense.

I don't imagine Brodhead was very fond of Dean or Davis. However, Brodhead was a football AD. Brodhead made a great decision when he fired Stovall and hired Arnsparger. However, Brodhead passed on Spurrier and hired Mike Archer, lol.

Brodhead was already gone. Alabama,Southern Cal and Texas had openings that year, too. They didn't hire Spurrier, either. No one in 1986 with just his Tampa Bay Rowdies experience to look at had any idea about Spurrier.

I was 12 years old when it happened.

I woke up early that morning and watched it on Jefferson Pilot affiliate WAFB Channel 9.

LSU was coming off a big win against Ole Miss in which they played well. I went to that game and froze my arse off in the South Endzone, despite the game taking place on Oct 30.

There was something special happening to this team, and through the dark years of 1989-1994, the three game winning streak that took place in 1993 was probably the brightest point in that span. After the ‘93 Tigers beat Bama, they also beat Tulane to bring their record to 5-5.

With one game remaining and a Carquest Bowl trip on the line, the Tigers were absolutely pummeled by a 4-5-1 Arkansas team. The dream was dead on a cold day in Tiger Stadium the day after Thanksgiving.

I was living in Nashville at the time, and one of my contractors was an enormous Bama fan, complete with elephant on his vehicle and all. He gave me the 3rd degree all week about how Bama was going to mop the floor with my Tigers. On game day, he was on one of my jobs at the time of the game, and when LSU pulled off the upset, I made it a point to drop by the job site to see how everything was going, but mostly to make him eat his crow. How sweet it was to watch him have to humble himself.

The next day I’m checking out at a grocery store in Hendersonville, and I was wearing an LSU hat, and this random UT fan from another checkout line on the other side of the store yelled out GEAUX TIGERS!!!! I turned around and he approached me, congratulating me on the big upset. He told me how much he enjoyed LSU beating Bama. It’s difficult to measure the true hatred for Bama amongst Tennessee fans, or it was then let’s say. Great game and it made me so proud to wear those colors the whole week afterward.

Ehh, it was Curley's blind squirrel moment that bought him another season.

LOL, good times! I was a student from '89 to '94. However, looking back on it, I think it was a great time to be a student who loved LSU football. I went to every home game for five seasons. More often than not, I bought my $3 student ticket on Saturday morning.

Today, I believe students only get tickets for a couple games each year.

This one is tough - the Arns recommended Archer on his way out (and would hire Spurrier at Florida just two years later, BTW). The players reportedly nominated spokesmen to talk to the AD and request Archer be promoted.

He was a young and coming coach and the decision, on paper at the time, wasn't terrible. It just didn't work out. For that matter, Arnsparger had already let recruiting dip. It's clear when you look back that Arnsparger and his staff (Archer included) as a group weren't elite recruiters, despite having legendary coaches like Jenkins on staff.

Archer apparently didn't have great people skills with regards to massaging the egos of the LHSAA head coaches, either, and that was all she wrote.
