That's just stupid.

Good luck with his averaging 110 games a season and the likelihood he can't hit the side of a barn for the first 2 months of every season.

So no care for another one. Post does not imply Cubs have not had success since 1943…

If he stays healthy, he potentially is.

In the past 4 seasons, he ranks 4th in wRC+ (the stat that tells you how good a hitter really is), behind the big 3 of Jose Ramirez, Rafael Devers, and Manny Machado. He ranks 3rd in WAR behind only JRam and Machado. Both of them are older than Bregman.

In that same span, he's ranked 19th out of all hitters with a 17.5 WAR.

They might have overpaid for what he's worth based on the average annual value of other players of his caliber around the league, but not as much as people think. And guess what, when you're in a market as big as Chicago, you can afford to overpay for guys you want on your roster.

So glad he’s finally joined the good guys! Haven’t rooted for him since college.

Small ballpark and tons of power to left. No Green Monster to deal with. Just stay healthy

That's his market value, so that's what he is worth to them

Does this put him as the highest career earner in the history of LSU athletics?

Shaq made $292 million in his career.

According to Spotrack Bregman has made $127 million so far.

Assuming that all of this money is guaranteed, because it is an MLB contract, Bregman will pass Shaq for the highest professional earnings in LSU player history.

If Joe Burrow actually gets all the money from the contract he signed, he would pass Bregman. He currently has $182 million in earned and guaranteed money. He is projected to have over $300 million in potential earnings.

Aaron Nola is going to end up over $200 million by the end of his career.

Justin Jefferson and Ja’Marr Chase will likely end up in the mid to high $100s.

I’m sure there are some other baseball tigers that I’m not including on this list.

Good salary summary. I would add that if Skenes is able to keep playing at the level he has, even though currently on lower rookie contract salary plus bonuses, his next contract or two should be pretty wild.

Massive overpay, but good for him.

It is definitely an overpay but almost all of these big free agent signings are an overpay - shocked the Cubs would do it given the way they have been operating since Covid, totally out of character. As Cubs fans who hate the Ricketts have been saying for years "it's not my money - so what if it's an overpay".

But as a Cub fan myself - it without question makes the team better, I don't think that's debatable - and the Cubs project him aging well.

And as a Cub fan who is also an LSU fan I love it. I will be there opening weekend at Wrigley with some LSU gear on.

Yeah - knock on wood for no injuries - Skenes will take the top spot. He may sign a $300mm+ contract at his first full FA year.

Yeah skenes will end up at the top for baseball players.

DJ LeMahieu is second to Bregman as of now, just ahead of Aaron Nola.
