Gee, if only there were websites that help you search for hotels ...

Hotel/motel rooms will be easier to find than tickets to the game.

look for Airbnb's in Hyde Park. You can also look for places near a train stop that will take you straight downtown.
The touchdown express busses pick up and drop off at the UT intramural fields at Guadalupe/51st Streets. It's an easy walk to Hyde Park from there.

Nah. The east side isn't nearly as bad as it used to be. There are actually lots of cool new restaurants and bars in east Austin.
As an added bonus, the RBJ Public Health Center is right down the street from you. You can get STD testing for free. LOL

We rented out an entire bunk room at HK Austin, it's a hostel less than 3 miles from campus. $39 per bed, per night. 8 beds for 2 nights cost a total of $624

Are you can just stay in San Antonio take the 45 min drive which is what I’m doing since i prefer San Antonio area anyway
I like San Antonio, but this is stupid. And it ain't 45 minutes from SA to UT.

Yeah SA is more than 45. Especially since 35 is a cluster these days
You can find plenty places in Austin

Truest statement in the thread.
Ive been planning on going to this game since they announced it years ago, but unless prices come down some, i’m not gonna make it. I’m not even looking for a ‘bargain’, but I haven’t seen anything less than $600 for a pair of absolutely crappy nosebleed seats (haven’t looked in a few days, that may change).. usually we get 10-12 tix thru TAF for away games, bowls , neutral games in Dallas etc but but they sent out an email a couple wks ago saying not to expect any tix from them no matter where you are on the donor rankings.

it will be cheaper to get UT season tickets than to get just the LSU game

i live in Bee Cave not far from Lakeway and though a nice area - not at all close or convenient to UT

This is also a true statement , and there are Tiger fans in Houston and Austin who did exactly that after receiving the email from TAF a couple of weeks ago.. you can literally buy season tickets for the Longhorns , sell the other two or three decent games on the UT schedule and come out with a little bit of a profit.. i looked into doing it myself but we just wrote a check to TAF for almost 6 figures and I don’t have it in me to buy UT season tix after that, lol

Stayed in Bastrop about three weeks ago. 35 minutes from downtown Austin. Rates were $100.00 a night at the Hampton. Much easier.

6 figures?
Does that include two figures after the decimal point?

No, unfortunately.. but 85-90% of our tickets are used by other people who reimbuse me, so it doesnt wind up costing me that much in the end.
But if current leadership remains in the athletic dept., i’m getting rid of a ***ton of seats next year, so my outlay will be a whole lot less.. i’m not in this to make a profit, i’m a fan, so i value winning and competitiveness above all else.

Here’s the skinny... long time resident
Arboretum area is where I’d stay — there are a lot of hotels near the intersection of 183 and Mopac that are all going to be good.
Avoid I-35.& Rundberg area. Areas northwest of intersection of I-35 and 183 in north Austin are the closest thing we have to a “bad” area of town. Austin is pretty safe by southern city standards.
You can really do no wrong downtown but will pay for it. I am personally biased to West Austin. Anything West will generally be good.
Traffic to the UT games flows a lot better in/out than LSU games. You really could Uber in/out relatively easily especially if you do so before traffic gets there & an hour after game time if you walk a bit.
