Probably none.
I like Miles. I think he's a legit Top 10 coach.

7)Brian Kelly (8-6 with Notre Dame, 179-63-2 overall). As recently as last week, this wouldn't have seemed like an odd choice. But in college football, especially at Notre Dame, every game becomes a referendum. From Grand Valley State to Central Michigan to Cincinnati, Kelly has been a master program builder. He'll have the Fighting Irish consistently contending for BCS bowls
How I know this list is shite

the 09 iowa game was a nice win for them. true. i just dont see it. everyone looks brilliant with no expectations, a roster full of 5th year seniors, never having to play underclassmen, and not having the pressure of must-win games. i believe you have to prove it at the big boy level if you want big boy recognition.
the only thing this list is missing is kirk ferentz and his MASSIVELY overrated arse. im glad that ship has finally sailed

Peterson has done a great job at Boise. That cannot be denied however he did not build the program. Koetter and Hawkins did to a large extent.
Hawkins had won more than 80% of his games there and darn near every Conf game.

LMAO...I have always thought you an idiot on here....back before I even bagan posting.....LOVING this list....you got 2 guys who play absolutey no one on this list in the top 5, and a guy barely .500 in a weak conference in the top 5...and even have brian kelley on here as a potential top 5 (probably the biggest joke of all)...bobby petrino who has never won a SEC Championship...never won a BCS game at arky...never even finished in the top 10 at arky....and then you have ole les with his poor 63-17 record (best record in school history).....4 out of 6 top tens (best run in school history....5-1 in good bowl games...(best run in school history)...incredible OOC w/l record against several big teams....tremendous beatdowns of good teams when given time to prepare......currently has a team ranked in top 5.....could lead LSU this year to be the only school to win 3 BCS Championships (2 with him)...and push his win % over 80%....and have 5/7 top 10 finishes, and 4/7 top 5 finishes...and you call him legit top 10 instead of top 5.....you antonio moss, like the majority of your posts over the last few years....are a joke.

It tells you how easy it is to win there. He is a good coach (probably) but all this bs....in his career he has beaten TCU, Oregon, Va. Tech, and now Georgia......and because he plays in such a pathetic conference and has cakewalk wins week in and week out he is a great coach...bs. Oregon is a gimmick.....that was proven.....Va. Tech...anyone remember 2007? or 2009 against Bama? Georgia...might finish with a winning record this year...might...after a losing record last year, and likely a 6th-8th place team in the SEC.....this is his resume...PLEASE.

Objectively, all things considered? None of them. We lucked out, its funny so many "fans" still can't recognize that. Some will come around eventually.

I've been running my coach rating program which measure "29 deeper dimensions of coaching". And Les Miles keeps coming up number 1.
Posted on 9/9/11 at 12:57 pm to CantonTiger128
I agree
Without trying to be over cliche- (ish); to be the best you gotta beat the best.
I'll take Les's record against the best teams any day

Yeah that is bs. I dont think spurrier or patterson should be up there. I like peterson, but they mentioned the wac, and he should lose points for that.

I've said it before and I'll say it again, Les Miles will earn more national deference and accolades if and when he wins a second SEC title. You can't claim to be one of the five best coaches in America when you've only won your own conference once in six years. With the exception of Fitzgerald - who is a questionable selection at number 4 and has little talent to work with at perennial underdog Northwestern- all of the Top 5 coaches have won their respective conferences multiple times. Saban, Peterson, Stoops, Patterson, Spurrier, Brown, and Paterno have all won multiple titles in their current conference. Petrino won more than one conference title when he was at Louisville. Kelly won multiple Big East titles at Cincinatti.
Every coach in the Top 11 has won multiple conference titles at some point in their career other than Fitzgerald and Miles.

You have to take into account programs. Northwestern will never win a National Championship. Vanderbilt will never win a National Championship. Baylor will never win a National Championship, etc., etc., etc.
These programs simply can't compete at getting the same type of player as the LSUs, Alabamas, Texas', Oklahomas, etc., etc.
Even look at a program like Oregon - the premiere school in their state and sitting next to the biggest recruiting hot bed in the country - and they've only had a top ten recruiting class once in the last five years. It's simply not the same. Chip Kelly has some talent, but its not close to LSU's level.
So when you judge these coaches, you have to take into account the type of school at which the coach is coacing, the type of player they can recruit, and the type of competition they have to play.
Miles and Saban are great examples. Both made names for themselves at "little brother" schools in the big conferences.
Miles went 4-7, 8-5, 9-4, and 7-5 in his four years in Stillwater.
Saban went 6-5-1, 6-6, 7-5, 6-6, and 9-2 in his five years in East Lansing.
We all say they are both Top Ten coaches but their records, when viewed in a vacuum, were nothing to write home about at the previous stops. However, it was evident from the production they were getting at these programs, that they were good enough to coach at the next level.
Since I'm the only one who posted a top ten list, I'd be interested to see which coaches you would have in the top ten.

What about Oklahoma in '07? You know the biggest win in his career? One of the most memorable bowl games in the last decade? Sorry, but you can't tell me that '07 Oklahoma team was a chump. He also beat Utah handily last year and Utah was pretty legit (just ask Alabama the year before). I hate Boise with a passion but there is just no argument anymore for them not being a legit program and Peterson being an elite coach.

I love how rational thought goes right out the window when talking about saban. Two games ago the best coach in the world took a team with 4 first round draft picks and blew a 21 point lead, at home, to their biggest rival.
he took the most talented team in america and finished 4th in his division.
How impressive.
im not saying hes bad, hes not, hes great, im just saying lists like this are dumb. theres no "best" coach. theres 10 or 20 really good ones who all have different strengths and weaknesses.

I believe CFB coaching is at least 80% recruiting and Les is top 6 or 7

Fitzgerald, Kelly, Joe Pa, Spurrier don't belong on that list.
Petrino....prob not.

Northwestern is the Vanderbilt of the Big Ten. He has no talent.
--Doesn't play in the SEC
He still wins 8-9 games a year and constantly knocks off big programs
--Notoriously inconsistent with loses to crappy programs

Historically i would Put Joe Pa at #1 due to he has done it for so long and has probably forgotten more about football than any coach on that list has ever learn. Stoops-> GTFO Kelly-. GTFO i would have CLM at 5
