Maybe, but remember that even if it was 4.5 as widely beleived it was still faster than anybody around back in the 50's. It is also faster than guys like Charles Scott and Dalton Hillard.

I think those with a sense of LSU's history would properly recognize Cannon, Miley and Dark as our best "all-around" athletes at LSU.
These days, athletes, for the most part, specialize in one sport, and you have to define "best athlete" as the athlete with the best "set" of measurable skills, who could hypothetically be excellent in many sports.
In recent years, some athletes that come to my mind for raw athletic ability are Michael Clayton, Marcus Spears, Tyrus Thomas, Xavier Carter, Eddie Kennison and Big Baby (speed isn't the sole defining characteristic of an athlete).
Currently, my votes go to Jared Mitchell, Trindon Holliday, Ricky-Jean Francois and Tyson Jackson.

If we are basing this just off of athleticism, LaRon would be way up there.

Yes, Kinchen should be mentioned with Casanova, Miley et al. If he had played on better teams he would be remembered as one of the greats. He was lightning in a bottle. Will never forget the hail mary catch he made against Vanderbilt...darn officials. Also remember, he missed a year with a vicious leg break. When he touched the ball......the other team held their breath.
About Casanova, remember he took one for the team by playing on the defensive side of the ball. Not only an unbelievable athlete he was also a team ballplayer.

Probably Cannon, given his achievements in football, track, and field. Cannon is one of the best all-around athletes in the history of the SEC.
Another athlete who deserves mention is Joe Adcock. Adcock attended LSU on a basketball scholarship but also played baseball. think he led the SEC in scoring one year, and Adcock then went on to a an excellent, if sometimes injury plagued career in MLB.
(Note: I could not confirm with some quick internet searches the part about Adcock leading the SEC in scoring but he was a top player).

#1 Billy Cannon
#2 Chris Jackson
#3 Pistol Pete
#4 Kevin Faulk
These were the most dominant athletes to were the purple and gold on the college level. Don't argue. I'm right :)

Tommy Casonova.. the best natural athlete by far. #2 Mike Miley
Hitman202 - these are the first two that popped in my mind.

In all fairness to you youngsters, (who may be crazier LSU fans than me) when you mention athletes in the last 10 years, you don't have a clue. None of these guys, none can tie the shoes of a guy like Cannon. Faulk? Unbelieveable TB, but compaired to Casonova who may have been the top free safety in the NFL for a few years, a joke. I'm sorry, but you are embarrassing yourselves (nearly as bad as my spelling.) Mike Miley? If you mention any baseball player, remember, he made the pros at the most demanding position, short-stop... and at QB captained an LSU offense with little talent to 9 staight wins!! Pistol Pete? To mention any BB player is insane. The guy averaged over 44 points a game ... a game over a three year college career, and with the 3-point rule, would have averaged close to 55!!!! And there are more. Granted, opinions are subjective, but some of you'll.. goodness. Chad Jones?? I would be embarrassed. No doubt he will be a stud... but his achievements?? Goodness gracious. Listen to us old farts and learn something.
