Crazy thing is personnel doesn't even appear to be last year's problem.

Oh, I think its a given we were much more talented there last year with Smith and Wingo. It is just a shame neither had a position coach.

Bo Davis has obviously been great, but Kevin Peoples needs to be getting a ton of credit too. He's been terrific, and his recruiting has been excellent as well.

We have a true freshman who weighed 250 just 6months ago starting at DT. The future is bright.

After Lindsey went down in camp. we played the ENTIRE 2023 season without a D-line coach. It boggles the mind this happened. It cost us at least a game (totally unprepared for Florida State), and until Davis was hired, it put us way behind in recruiting and even further behind in the portal grab as we were consistently out maneuvered for top talent on the D-line. Whether that decision was Kelly's alone or he trusted House, bottom line, the call to try to replace that position by committee was the worst personnel decision in recent memory. It was the most frustrating part of last season, and by the far the most inexplicably stupid decision Kelly has made.

I mean lindsey had his deal like 3 weeks before the season started last year. There aren’t a whole lot of qualified coaches just sitting on the couch waiting for a call that time of year. BK had to believe whatever we had was as good as we were going to get at that time. We did end up bringing Pete Jenkins in to help out but that call definitely should’ve been made sooner.

Agree. The defensive line has been a bright spot.

Lb play has been so poor and safety play as well.
CB and D line have been major surprises

Bo Pelini waves hello :)

But seriously, definitely the worst personnel decision of Kelly's tenure.

I am really excited about this group next season with another season under Bo and more experience. Thats not saying I am not excited about how they progress throughout the year but they are going to be in a much better spot next season. Could actually have an elite defensive line next year.

Ahmad Breaux interview this week was telling.
Bo has them playing over their heads.

W/next years group coming in, the future is once again bright for our Dline.

They are allowing the DTs to attack and create havoc rather than just take on blocks while allowing the linebackers to make the plays.

They are having the DT's play with low pad level and technique. Modern defenses assign players to gaps. Our DT's last year outside of Wingo at times got moved out of their gaps constantly. This year you see DT's with hands on linemen and leverage in their correct gaps. Now if the LBs and Safeties could figure out their run fits we will get alot better.

literally took the weakest link on paper and turned it into the strongest point on the defense over one offseason. If we had similar production from the LB and DB coaches we would talking NC this year.
