"look at history dude," or "you must not have watched a lot of football." So I took their advice, and looked at history. I came back having found nothing to validate their claims.
You're looking at the wrong statistic though. You shouldn't be looking at how many points the BCSCG winner scores. It's irrelevant because they won. You're using that statistic as if the winner needed every single one of those points. Instead, look at how many they allowed.
Scores of loser in BCSCG:
16
29
2
14
24
19
38
14
24
14
21
19
In 11 of those 13 games, the winner had a defense which would have enabled them to win with only 25 points. For comparison, 25 ppg this season would have a team ranked 82nd in scoring offense.

They should ban dillweeds like you. The OP made some good points, though I think Bama and LSU slaughter those other teams.

both teams were averaging 40 a game, and each secondary put up their standard numbers on D.
Both have two of the deepest and talented defensive lines in the country. Alabama has absolute freaks of nature playing LB.
The WR and QBs in the NFL are incredible, why do you think lock down corners are few and far between in the league?

If that were the case, the NFL wouldn't be becoming such an offensive game. With a good quarterback, there is just no way to cover all receivers regardless of how great a defense is.
passing defense<good passing offense

I think if LSU doesn't play the right schemes, and isn't up for the game that Arkansas can certainly beat us. No one is "unbeatable." A QB like Wilson could be trouble. If LSU plays like it is capable of playing, it should still be a win though.

both teams have destroyed everybody else all season long.. this is what happens when both teams go up against near-NFL quality defenses.. every defensive player on the field will get drafted IMO.
Posts like this are what make me not be phased from the fact that everyone is ganging up to try to clown me. NFL quality defense.....what a dunce.

I already covered that. The losing team has averaged 19 points a game.

Agreed that's my point. The nature of football is that amazing offenses beat top defenses. Now, is there any amazing offense in college football? Probably not. Luck is good, but I don't know if there receivers constitute an amazing offense.

No shite. Stupidity abounds.
LSU is beatable. Anyone is beatable. I think the only two teams capable though will be Arkansas and whoever LSU plays in a bowl game (pending the bowl and opponent.) Don't see Ole Miss causing any trouble this year.
This doesn't mean that anyone thinks these teams are "better" than LSU, it simply means they could score more points on a given day.

It's not. But LSU scored 19 vs Moo U. It can happen.
I think if LSU gets past Arkansas that nothing will stop them from a national championship though.

Both teams looked very beatable (Posted on 11/6/11 at 10:48 a.m.) Let me start off by saying that both LSU and Alabama's defense were incredible. That said, the offenses were nothing short of pitiful. And don't give me this "great defenses beat good offenses nonsense." If that were the case, the NFL wouldn't be becoming such an offensive game.
Last year in the Super Bowl the teams with the #1 defense and #2 defense in the NFL played each other. That is no coincidence. Also the Steelers won two Super Bowls recently with great defense and the Giants have won one. Defense is critical in football and no it is not nonsense to say so. You need to do your homework before making uninformed statements.

I agree. I'm not saying LSU is unbeatable at all.
I'm just trying to point out that just because the BCSCG game winner averages 33 points in the championship game doesn't mean that they needed every one of those 33 points to win.
Some championship teams won because they had a sick defense (OU 2000, LSU 2003, Florida 2008, etc.). Some championship teams won because they were sick on both sides of the ball (Miami 2001, USC 2004, Bama 2009, etc.).
But rarely do championship teams win solely because of their unstoppable offense. The only example I can think of in the BCS era would be Texas in 2005.

So when you say beatable, you mean beatable by an NFL team. Got it.
THESE TEAMS AVERAGED 40 POINTS PER GAME AGAINST TEAMS OTHER THAN EACH OTHER!!!!!
No one with a chance to beat them, IE actually play them, is going to offer defenses like these.

ok...what was your point then?
They dont have defense that could stop LSU or Bama's running game for 4 quarters, both would score close to 40 like have been doing against the competition all year

this is the single dumbest thing stated in the entire thread.
the nfl has changed the rules to give the offense every advantage possible, yet the teams with the best defenses still make up most of your successful post season teams.
comparing nfl to cfb is lunacy. they dont play by remotely the same rules
Posted on 11/6/11 at 2:17 pm to TheSexecutioner
its been proven year after year.. those high flying offenses in the big 12 and pac with their qb's and high scoring offenses lose year in and year out against SEC caliber defenses.
