Schmidt was pumping strikes or generating swings and misses in the fall. It's taken him a while to regain form but IMO there's no need to overreact until we see what he does once the season begins

I must have missed that. In that case Schmidt and Willams are most likely in a battle for Sunday, IF Williams gets the start tomorrow. Williams will have a slight edge in my opinion just to have a lefty in the rotation.
