Why did Canada settle? I’d try to get every penny LSU owed me. Then I would sue O for no reason.

Aranda's reputation is intact, his autonomy is intact, and he just got a humongous raise just to stay here a couple more years. I wonder how many D-1 head coaches don't make the money he is?

Pretty obvious Canada did something that LSU could hold over his head for him to agree to reduce his buyout that much.

That's a significant chunk.

This is a terrible look for O. Your first hire gone in 11 months.

RIP in peace Canada. We hardly knew ye.

I wasn’t the biggest Canada fan but we should’ve kept him if we were just gonna do this bullshite song and dance that’s ongoing now.

Orgeron is why we can’t have nice things.

Heard it the other day. Aranda now makes more than 80 of the 120ish FBS head coaches

No it’s not. He would have to pay back whatever he got paid at his next job. Not with this settlement. He isn’t losing that much money actually.

You guys, and this board are ridiculous. Sure, it's possible that some shite went down but taking a settlement is NOT an indication of improprieties. It's likely an effort to convert a restrictive buyout that is offset by future earnings into an up-front payment with no strings attached.

Now Canada will be able to go find another job without having to deal with the stipulations. Canada's break-even mark will be $750k/yr in whatever future job he gets.

On the flip side of that LSU reduces their potential liabilities and they come out ahead if Canada makes less than $750k/yr at the next job since they would have been on the hook for the difference.

The amount of money this athletic department wastes is asinine.

This is a head coaching failure on the part of Coach O. I am not saying that the decision to part ways with Canada is not the right one--I, too, have been disappointed that the LSU offense did not ramp it up considerably this year. Breaking ties with Canada is probably the correct decision.

But why in the hell did Coach O hire an offensive coordinator with whom he could not work? Is he that bad in judging the coaching ability of his assistants? Surely he watched game film and saw how Canada would run an offense, right? Was anyone surprised by the pre-snap motion and other elements of Canada's offensive philosophy? Is Coach O so inflexible that he cannot tolerate a talented assistant who runs an offense differently than he would and who was hired to change the way LSU does things offensively?

Moreover, what's up with the story that Coach O and Canada were hardly on speaking terms? Is Canada a jerk and Coach O tried but just couldn't get along with him? Or is it that the seemingly-affable Coach O can't get along with someone who was hired under the impression that he was going to be able to run the offense?

Regardless, this was a major personnel decision that should have been done with great care, and it appears that Coach O failed in a big way in doing his homework and making sure that this important hire would fit into his scheme of things. I was a supporter of Coach O when he moved from interim to permanent head coach, but I am becoming increasingly skeptical that he is the person to lead LSU back to being a serious contender. He needs to get his act together in running this program in a way that can show dramatic improvement.
