16 team playoffs. Yea that should do it. That way we’re not leaving out anyone that deserves to be in it.
68 teams make the NCAA basketball tournament. And still, there are deserving teams that are left out.

The ACC really threw a monkey wrench in the selection. 2 teams playing in the CCG both ranked below Miami. It was either leave out the ACC conference entirely or the independent.

Had Virginia won, they would have been 11 and Tulane 12. Since they lost, it's Tulane 11 and JMU 12.

Are they really, REALLY trying to say that James Madison and Tulane are better and more deserving than Vandy?
Even bama doesn't deserve the spot over Vandy
frick this committee
The committee didn’t put Tulane and JMU ahead of Vandy. The format did.
Vandy isn’t even competing for the same spot as Tulane/JMU. It’s the top 5 conference champions plus the top 7 non-champions. The committee said Tulane/JMU were more deserving than Duke. Which… they are.

Expand to 20 teams, with the bottom 8 seeds playing for a spot in the 16-team bracket.
I am on the opposite side of this. Going to 20 teams dilutes the season too much. I liked it at 4 teams. I want the season to mean more. 20 teams leads to too many Cinderella champions that get hot and get lucky draws in the playoffs.

Any idea which semi bowl winners play where? Doing a bowl picks but you can't pick the semi winners without knowing who is playing who. Last year it said Sugar winner vs Fiesta Winner. Don't see that this year

Georgia/ Bama in the Championship game, and I actually won't hate it.

No Notre Dame is the real news. Didn’t think the committee had the guts to leave them out.
Committee sent them a clear and simple message: Join a conference.

Applying a 20-team playoffs this year would get ALL 2 loss P4 teams in:
ND, BYU, Vandy, Utah, plus Tulane (top ranked G6 team). All deserving!
It would also get UT, USC, AZ, Mich and UVA in, all P4 teams with 3 losses. That would make for some compelling 1st round play-in games:
UT v Tulane
Vandy v UVA
Utah v Mich
USC v AZ
That could lead to these round of 16 games:
UT v TT
Vandy v UGA
MICH v OSU rematch
USC v IU
What's not to love! This would still require teams to have no more than 2 losses to guarantee a spot in the playoffs. Regular season dilution would be minimal.

8, 10, or 12 is fine with me. 16 is too many.

So you basically have the top ten teams plus Tulane and James Madison. It’s just tough luck for the actual #11 and #12. The top ten teams that play these two heavy underdogs start off with an advantage. Unless this nonsense changes you are going to have legitimate gripes from several teams like Notre Dame every year.

Having Texas and Vanderbilt play Oregon and Ole Miss would've been so much more interesting

As one listens to the crying about the committee’s decisions from all sectors it becomes apparent that the problem is people. People and their biases, and favoritism will constantly obstruct valid results. The BCS concept was tried, and although it had flaws, it showed some potential promise. I feel that the only way to develop a system that works is to take all the sports announcers, media people, ADs, and TV mouth pieces out of the picture. Cold data including all aspects of the games, strength of schedule and results analytics should be analyzed by AI without any human interference. The results should be irrefutable.

None of which have a prayer of winning. Kind of like football after you get past #8 or so.

Well 1-10 looks legitimate but addition of 11-12 is a joke. Would prefer something like Notre Dame and Vanderbilt for 11-12.

Nope. It would be almost as bad as the NBA.
