I think Chad is a much better cover guy and has much better ball skills. Chad is also pretty football fast, i.e. with pads on and has good shake. He is tall, strong, and big with the frame to get bigger and should make a pretty good NFL OLB or SS.

Definitely has all the measureables, except perhaps the blazing speed. But I still wonder if he even likes to tackle. That might hurt him the most at the next level.

Fwiw. About a month or so ago, Joe Theisman on NFL betwork flat out said that Laron landry "is a liability as a cover guy" and that the Redskins need to compensate for that in their defensive formations. So, let's hope that Chad IS a better guy.

Maybe. I'm curious to see what he's gonna weigh in at.

Chad Jones has better instincts in coverage, but he isn't faster. Part of the reason he is better in coverage is that he doesn't look to blow up people every chance he gets like Laron. Laron had better coverage skills set out of college, on account of better experience and more consistent coaching. With time Chad Jones would be a better NFL FS. Laron should be playing SS at this point.

I'll put it to you you this way..........If Chad Jones breaks a 4.4 at his size he is a lock for the 1st round!

Do I think he is faster than Laron? NO

Do I think he is a better NFL safety and more athletic? YES and it isn't even close.

I was never happy with jones. I thought he was going to be much better then he actually was

he always seemed a step slow to me, and did not seem to be in great shape either.

We all thought he was going to be what Patrick peterson is.

No way is he better then laron. Sorry.

Plus Jones is significantly bigger than Landry although I think he has a lot left to learn about the defensive secondary. Is he going to run with the pizza weight he picked up last year from hanging out with the n'er do wells known as the baseball team?

There's almost no chance that Jones runs faster than Laron at the combine. Saying that Jones is a better cover guy than Landry isn't saying much, it's pretty much the equivalent of saying you can see better than a blind guy.

Faster? Definitely not?

Better coverage guy? Jury's still out. Jones looked burned on many plays but he didn't have the D line pressure Laron had. Landry had the best d lines LSU has seen during his time at LSU so it's not easy to call who is better in coverage.

Coming out of college Landry was better than Jones.

Chad will not run a better 40 than him.

It's Laron's 4th year so we'll see if he gets better. I mean he still starts for an NFL team even if it is the redskins.

Chad still has to prove himself in the league.

At least that is what Mike Detillier said last night on 4th Down on 4.

then Detillier is wrong.

JOnes won't sniff Landry's 40 time.

Landry was an average cover safety. Jones is below average.

They both bring the pain.

Really not saying much Laron's coverage skills are pretty terrible. However the immense amount of trash he talks when his team mates make a play is unmatched in the NFL.

byfar the best post in this thread .... i still remember his picking off a pass in the Ohio State game and getting pushed into their sideline and flipping the ball to a player as he ran through their team

CJ, being 230ish, would be happy if he can run a sub 4.50

as far as what kind of cover skills CJ has, its unknown right now. he wasnt tested at all against Penn St due to the sloppy field. 1st half of the season he was below average, 2nd half, he was much improved.

LL played 4yrs at saftey for LSU, CJ only one.
