Two things I think can make him a star: good pocket presence and when he runs, he looks for the pass before passing the LOS. We haven't seen much of this the last 2 years.
His throwing motion looks like he's throwing a dart and he puts a lot of arc on throws - even short ones. A lot of those passes won't make it to the receiver in the SEC. If Krags is truly a good QB teacher, he can correct this though.

what do you think about the funky release and wobbly balls?
As long as they get to the receiver I don't care. Release and footwork are WAY more important in the NFL than college. People have been brainwashed into not knowing the difference.

Seems to throw off his back foot a lot ala Lee
Too bad we still don't have Crowton so he could coach him up

Receivers have to turn around, they're not lead have to slow down, will be a project. Not going to get away with the floaters in the SEC.

He hasn't even stepped on campus and you jackazzzes are battering him already.
What in the fu ck is wrong with you people?
Why the unending drive to criticize?

He throws the ball off his back foot alot. Hopefully Coach can work on his footwork. If he stepped into his throw, his passes wouldn't be so wobbly.

I'd like to see him get in the 225-240 lbs range. I think after 2 years in the system with Kragthrope he could definitely be an all-sec qb..

Who is #22 receiver and where is he going?
J. Pride RB/CB/WR 5'8 170 Jr with medium interest in Samford and Southern Miss.
ETA: Found this on Rivals. Not premium info as far as I know.

They said he threw off his back foot and he has funky mechanics... how the hell is that being mean?

Does he throw the shotput on the track team as well?

Has a low and short release, and does throw off his backfoor some. However, his pocket presence while still attempting to locate receivers is a huge plus. He seems to never give up on throwing the ball unless forced to run. When he runs he is decent. Two years of mechanics training should round this kid out perfectly.

Rivers is a steal! He probably should have been rated at least a 4 star recruit. Jarrett Lee was and I think Rivers is a better prospect.

He is from right up the road from me. He has a funny delivery but the ball is on the money. The main thing I like about is he knows how to read defenses which we don't have now at qb. He was the MVP in the Miss.-Al. all star game.

He'll be on the sidelines for 2 years and then surprise people
I won't be the least bit surprised. QB is so much about pocket awareness and extending the play — two things Rivers does very, very well. His throwing motion is low...good thing he's 6'7!

He seems to move well in the pocket, gets the ball away pretty quick when he's ready to throw, and is always looking down field in that film.
He had some talent around him too.
We will have to see what happens, but LSU might have more talent at QB this year than I can recall us having in a good while.

Not only that but he puts his left shoe on first. That may cause him trouble later on.

you really are the most annoying poster on this website, and that is saying a lot.
No one bashed the kid, they just pointed out the reasons he wasn't rated higher coming out of high school.

He gets rid of the ball amazingly fast. His arm should get adequately strong as he gets some weight and maturity on his frame. He has a head for the game, like his brother in all probability.
With some sterength and a little technique, he has too much leverage to not have a good arm , not a guaranteed rifle....but good enough. I think he is the perfect QB to have in the wings.

My first thought is that he looks a little like Ben Rothlisburger (sp) in the pocket, with the way he moves and buys himself time. Looks to have good armstrength/release. Glad we got him.
