You respect the cajun culture, thank you for that, but you keep it real.

Being a fan of both teams I thought it was a very well written article. Good work.

I like that "Lesticles" is nowadays considered a respectful moniker.
THAT is culture!

Only at LSU.
I like Carl Dubois' writing. I admire his insight into both the nature of college sports and the Louisiana culture. I tend to agree with him almost all the time. But this one was a bit too close to a nerve. Do you think anyone in Alabama was writing about what would happen to Nicky if his team lost to Florida International? Do you think the Florida fans were obsessing, or even thinking, about the possibility of losing to Charleston Southern? Never crossed their minds. And the likelihood of LSU losing to ULALA is on a par with those hypothetical outcomes. Yet we're already obsessing about whether we might actually drop a game to Lafayette High. I understand it is humor, and it is indeed funny. But humor only works if there is a kernal of truth at its core. And the truth here is not that LSU might actually lose, but that its fans think it might. (I know, Dubois is only talking about giving up a TD, but he plays on the fans' insecurities until the end). LSU fans still, in the midst of the greatest run of success in LSU's football history, don't believe, deep down, that they belong at the top.
They're like Groucho Marx with his famous quote, "I wouldn't join a club that would have me for a member." It's why they get their panties in a twist if any other team dares to give them a fight. It's why they grumble if every play doesn't go for a touchdown. It explains why they abandon the stadium in the middle of a close game with an allegedly lesser team.
Dubois is clever. And he is funny. And he hits the mark here, because he understands the LSU fan.We laugh at it nervously, because it exposes what we don't want to admit: we don't believe in our team nearly as much as the opposition does.

Fantastic piece.
And as a Lafayette Resident. Dear God please let this end up on the desk of Miles.
They haven't even cleated up and ULL is declaring a moral victory over the Tigers.

This was a well written piece and I enjoyed reading it, but like what "nycajun" said we would not , if we where loyal Tiger fans, agree with anything said here. The problem is we agree with what he said because we are looking for it to happen with Les Miles as coach because we are not loyal to the Tigers and to our coach like we should be, if we where, I do not think this would not have been pened. We as Tiger fans need to take a step back into reality think about what is real and what is not, what do we expect and what we do not. For the most part if we would lose Saturday Night all the Les Miles haters would be out in droves saying I told you so not that it was bound to happen because of the odds of it happening but, because we where looking for it to happen. The only way it happens if we go into that game thinking that it is a remote possibility of it happening then it will happen. I think deep down the most of us as Tiger fans, if we would lose this game, it would make you happy because there is finally a reason to run Les off and look for us another Nick Saban. Tiger Stadium is not the same because we do not totally believe that LSU is the best team in the SEC or country, it is that one belief that makes Tiger Stadium Death Valley to other teams that come into it. It is loyal fans backing their team and believing that we are the twelth man that makes our team come out on top every time we play a game, no matter the compitition, that we are going to will our team to VICTORY and that is what makes TIGER STADIUM DEATH VALLEY. That is how it got it's name because the oppossition new that TIGER FANS where the most loyal and boistrous fans in the country and it showed in DEATH VALLEY every Saturday Night or Day that they played.
So yes to Carl for writting an intertaining piece, but we need to look at it as that and say that that will not happen because we as loyal Tiger fans are not going to let it happen. Read my sig and this should help us all to recognize that this is something that we all can change and make a difference come Saturday Night in Death Valley. Now with that said I say GEAUX TIGERS!

Great articl Carl! At least this week you don't have to write about what this fellow thinks about LSU, Cajuns and Coon Asses
“He calls me, there was a guy working in a ditch, one of those coon-arse guys, that talk funny. I can’t talk like them, but he (the LSU trustee) can, most people in Louisiana can, and he (guy in ditch) says, (Saban imitating cajun accent) ‘Hey, you see that Coach Saban signed up with Alabama?’ … however they talk … (returns to cajun accent) ‘that son of a b—-, i feel like he’s (expletive) my wife.”

Sorry, but did you not read the entire piece because you missed the best part? The "kernal of truth at its core" is that we run the risk of finally giving up a touchdown against ULL, not that we might actually lose the game!
Nice piece Dubois!
