I've got 6 tickets for the Florida game. This will be the first LSU game for both of my sons. Really excited now that Driskell is out for the year. We should prolly be able to leave after the first quarter. ??
You sound like a great dad and true tiger fan. LSU is lucky to have your support.

Some factors contributing to the demise:
1. Pussificiation of America
2. Instant gratification culture
3. Gentrification of the crowd -- rich people have lots of entertainment options, LSU football evidently isn't the best one.
4. Prices of tickets/parking/concessions
5. Increased security and nanny bullshite -- can't smoke, harder to sneak in alcohol, parking a pain in the arse.
In real world economics, something like adding supply (extra seats) would lower prices. Do you all think the new South EZ upper deck, increasing supply of seats, will lower prices? LOFINGL
And it used to be that the early-departures would say "well it's only the rent-a-wins where people leave early".
Now they're saying "well we'll cheer hard if it's Alabama".
The experience has changed. The demographic of the fan base has changed. People at the stadium (ballers) just aren't as enthusiastic as they used to be. The blue collar demographic, the hard partying, passionate fans, has been priced out.
The drinking crowd that made TS famous, has been 'securitied out'. I used to love to sneak in whiskey and drink during the game.
Last few games I've attended involved drinking heavily before the game, then starting to come down by half. Not as fun, period.
And then all the GD TV breaks. That also disrupts the crowd.
Point is, there is no 1 reason. It's a combination of factors and long time fans can see it started to change when Saban started winning and getting big $$$.
All the bitching in the world won't change it.
I was embarrassed for TS and LSU fans last night when the ESPN guys kept (correctly) pointing out how empty the stadium was for a rival and a relatively close game. It wasn't ULL and it wasn't 56-3.
In the end, I don't go to games any more. I watch them on TV from 600 miles away. It's a lot more affordable and comfortable and I don't have to put up with a ration of shite from a self-important do-gooding 'security' official busting my balls over a cigarette or a mixed drink.
Believe it or not, I remember when you could go to see an LSU football game and be treated like an adult rather than a helpless defenseless child.
Old way>>>>new way IMHO.
Just win Tigers.

The crowd mirrored the second half offensive game plan.......the Tigers could have used their support and the fans failed them miserably.
LSU fans have truly evolved into an entitled bunch.

Charles, you should have gone to the game since you're such a true fan!
Posted on 9/22/13 at 8:44 am to redneck
In the dark ages, (70's, 80's, 90's for many of you) we weren't spoiled by success and felt, as fans, our presence, our passion and our ferver to the bitter end was inspiring to the team, our school and our state. Rain? Cold? Muggy? That didn't matter. Our school mattered.
What's changed is sad to see.

The fan support in TS is pretty weak.
Posted on 9/22/13 at 8:47 am to CharlesLSU
why didn't you go Charles? If someone who leaves with 10 minutes left isn't a fan then what does that say about someone who doesn't EVEN GO TO THE frickING GAME?

Because it's much easier for him to point the finger at what he thinks is the demise of others to attempt to get his little ego shot for the day. It makes him feel better about himself. He saves a few bucks, stays dry, watches the game on tv, and gets to wake up the next morning and criticize those of us who went out there in the elements yesterday.
And to boot, he gets to do it all in complete anonymity in his pj's hidden behind a laptop screen with nothing more than a TD username somewhere.

My investment to LSU amounts to quite a bit more than getting drunk on Saturdays......there's a reason 90% of former tigers don't go to but maybe 1 game a year. It's something neither of you would understand.
Btw, a certain recent HOFr didn't make it last night. Would you assert he's a non worthy fan? You'd be right. He's a Tiger.

Please, don't renew your season tickets so people who actually LIKE LSU football can get a shot.

Great post Charles. You hit the nail on the head. It is inexcusable. What is home field advantage? These bozos that leave early are obviously too stupid to see the big picture. It most certainly affects our players and I can't see how it wouldn't have an affect on recruiting as well. I wish that I still lived in Louisiana and could make it to all the games. I usually go to at least 2 a year, and my arse is in the seat until the very end making as much noise as I can. I would gladly pay you ELLESHOE more than the cost of your tickets for the remaining home games just to keep your seats filled until the very end. I really don't see how any of our fans find this acceptable or choose to defend it. It has gotten worse and that was apparent last night. They should take down the Death Valley Sign and replace it with Home Of The Tailgate!

Unless it's the game o the year, LSU fans suck
Posted on 9/22/13 at 9:41 am to Chad504boy
We should just get rid of college football stadiums.
Play all games in a studio - no fans. All games PPV so we can stay home and watch every game on our 80 inch HD's, in a dry, climate-controlled environment and not worry about any traffic.
Tailgaters can have their friends over to their home and they can trash their own property.

If we aren't playing Alabama or a big time school tiger stadium just isn't the same anymore. It seems like the goal now is to see how quiet we can be during the game
Posted on 9/22/13 at 9:47 am to Elleshoe
Look, nobody wants to be told what to do, however, it would be nice if people wanted to stay and support the team in the stadium through at least half way through the 4th quarter.
The Tiger Stadium experience is best when the stadium is nearly full. When so many leave early, it ruins that experience for those of us who want to stay - and for the players who feed off of that energy.
