Your dad is overreacting.
And to all of the people that have these romanticized notions of what the old tiger stadium used to be like, they are wearing rose-colored glasses. Sure there were some games where the crowd was into it but there were plenty of games where either LSU was getting the hell beat out of them or was beating the hell out of somebody where the stadium was half full after halftime. Couple a beatdown with rain and you have a perfect recipe for a stadium emptying out.
For big or close games, that stadium is full and as loud as anyplace in the country.

If you have been to games in the last 4 decades there is no way in hell you would say TS is what it used to be.

"Death Valley is just not the same."
For one thing, it used to be called Deaf Valley.

Parked overnight, like always.
Where were we going to tailgate now?
Packed up and went home.
It's was a fricking monsoon.
Some people are just unreasonable.

This was one of the most concerning things out of my fathers mouth when we spoke about the game this evening that I thought was ridiculous. In addition to his other negativity, that was his exact quote and what he seemed to be most concerned about. Someone please help me rest tonight and help me understand the reason the stadium was half empty after halftime. I certainly think its ridiculous to make that statement, but he claims many people were complaining today. I know that I did not make the trip from Houston as the weather report stated it would rain all day and throughout the game. Thoughts/comments/concerns?
Tell him he's becoming a tired old cliche. Every year - even every game - someone on TD.com complains about how TS isn't the same any more. Yet the feeling at last year's Alabama game was about as electric as its ever been (right up until we lost, of course).
TS hasn't changed, YOU have.

The stadium does not have enough amenities. I've come to enjoy nice new stadiums where I can buy beer and sit down and check other scores etc. I love LSU and stayed until mid 4th quarter (I know that's still a sin here) but like when we played in Dallas, I never thought to leave even if it had turned into a blowout, because I could always find other scores/info and go buy myself a drink. I know hardly anyone will agree, but in this day and age with all the information in new stadiums, when LSU goes up several touchdowns in Tiger Stadium, I start getting annoyed I can't get other game information easily or have a drink.
That being said, games are in TV now and the NFL is facing an attendance issue, people like to relax in their homes and do other stuff during breaks/halftime.

Who the frick gives a crap? What do you think this is, a Holiday Inn? Do you come for the 'amenities' or to watch LSU play? You get a seat that faces the field and a hole to pee in, what more do you need?

Just sneak in a bottle of Jack like everyone else does. LSU fans may not realize it, but we save a lot of money by not selling booze in the stadium. At TS, for about $15 you can have enough whiskey for you and a friend to get hammered - in the Superdome, will that even get you TWO beers?

I still can't understand why Tiger Stadium doesn't have APs up around the perimeter of the stadium for wireless connectivity. I wish I knew the password to get the pressbox signal.
Does anybody have it?

I have and I've sat through games like fla st where I'd say there were 10 k by the end of the game.. I've also been to games like Bama last year where it was consistently louder than any game I've ever attended.. More than fla in 97 even..

Last year's bammer game was the best feeling I've had in TS in a long, long time. So electric. Its as if all tiger fans were one unified conscious.
Until we lost, of course.

it looked like at most two-thirds full at mid-point of 1st quarter. That's pathetic. Can't blame that on it being a big lead or a crappy OOC opponent.
We really are a fanbase dominated by literal fair-weather fans.
I was ashamed sitting there and was hoping the tv crew minimized the crowd shots.

I am talking about as a whole. That place was crazy before we became the powerhouse we are now. Wasn't just for Bama or Florida (#1 teams on the road always play in front of great crowds).

I went to last years South Carolina game and the place was packed til the end. It was super loud and was just awesome. I went to this game and was actually surprised to see how full the stadium was considering how bad the weather was. I was surprised to see so many people tailgaiting throughout the day considering the weather as well. I was not surprised people left early in a blow out. We were up 21 points at half. I stayed the whole game however if my daughter had started complaining about being too cold we would have left early too. We had been soaked all day and we were going to win. I have the game recorded at home as well. I pay good money for my seats. I usually come early and leave after the final buzzer. However, if I ever feel the want to leave early I will and won't feel guilty for a moment. I love LSU football. However long I stay to watch the game doesn't diminish over 30 years of being a fan.

That game was crazy. One that isn't talked about much was the houston game in 96 or 97. I think we were trailing by 3 tds going into the 4th....if played in the last 10 years the stadium would have emptied.

Drop the L and the S, the tigers are now like The U when it comes to attendance.

I don't remember...the game was still in doubt and many fans left before the 4th quarter...nothing like the auburn game.
