You'll never win a NC by not being able to throw 40+ yds.

NC game stats:

12 passes under 10 yds. for 65 yds and 3 TD's.
7 passes between 10-25 yds. for 109 yds. and 1 TD.
NONE for over 25 yds....he averaged 5.4 yds. per completion.

Final stat 19/27 for 174 yds. and 4 TDs.

Lee or Hatch could make any of those throws. Ya'll just keep talking about the QB's, LSU will do fine.

A year ago, the LSU offense set 10 school records, including points in a season (541), points per game (38.6) and touchdowns scored (64), on its way to posting a 12-2 overall mark.

The 2007 LSU offense produced one of the top rushing and passing seasons in school history as Jacob Hester ran for 1,103 yards and 12 scores, while Flynn threw for 2,407 yards and 21 touchdowns. It marked only the sixth time in school history that LSU’s offense has featured a 1,000-yard rusher and a 2,000-yard passer in the same season.

Last year Flynn completed 56% of his passes for 21 TD's and 11 INT's. I would think both QB's with a second year under the Wiz could do as good or better. Returning 7 out of 8 leading receivers from last year, 4 of 5 rushers. This team will do just fine.

You are missing the point. You don't have to throw it deep in a given game...but you have to be able to throw it deep.

Teams weren't able to load the box against Flynn because he was able to get adequately get the ball downfied if needed.

Teams will load the box all year against Hatch until he can prove that he can beat them over the top.

So in summary...Do you really need to throw the ball 40+ yards to beat very strong SEC defences

I think being able to do that under control is definitely a benefit but what you really need is a strong O line because SEC defenses are sick and a great running game with a passing game that is mixed in enough to keep the defense on their toes

Why because Flynn never did throw a ball over 25 yds in the NC game? We beat them with the short passing game. LSU went vanilla in most of the second half.

And when it was 3rd or 4th and short, last year, Hester was gonna get the ball every time. Everyone knew this and no one could stop him (Even after loading the box).

We could only hope that they would do this, it would make an easy job for the Wiz.

If the premise is that Hatch can't make the play downfield, and thus allows opposing DCs to stack the box, then believe me, it will not make Crowton's job easier.

Crowton wants teams to play LSU honest because that gives him the entire playbook to work with.

yes, you have to be able to throw the ball 40+ yards. this is a ridiculous argument. my frickin back-up high school quarterback can throw it 40 (non-rainbow, but not accurate). out routes and all that shite make the throws longer too. a 40 yard pass (not 40 yard gain, but pass) has to be able to be thrown by a qb in the sec or any other conference in America.

What many people fail to realize is that when "arm strength" is brought up it doesn't have to mean throwing the ball 40-50 yards down the field. Even on slants you need a trong arm to fit the ball into a tight window. On outs you need a strong arm to throw the ball across the field.

Good points.
