Folks, relax. Note that an AGENT is saying this. Not Lee's agent or anything like that. This guy is purely weighing in on the money. Sure, I would take $3 million but we know absolutely nothing about Lee's family, his makeup and desire to play QB, etc. beyond what he's said to the media. We have a day left...the world isn't going to end.

Yes but not many thought the Dodgers would go over slot and thought Z Lee was a throw away pick.

It really depends on which sport he thinks he can excel at and which one he loves more.

I've never had the opportunity to turn down 3 mill to play a professional sport, so I really can't say. Most likely, I'm taking the money though.

Isn't this weird that the first offer is at the very last minute? Honestly I don't follow these negotiations much but why make the first offer at the very end?

One reason for a late 1st offer might have to be the current finacial situations going on with the Dodgers. I'm not sure that this was actually their first offer either.

Dodgers will offer first-round pick Zach Lee roughly $3MM

If they do this, I think he'll take it.

$3M is not the be all end all. First, you can kiss $1M of that goodbye after Uncle Sam get's his cut. Well, I take that back, after Obama's tax plan kick's in he can probably kiss about $1.5 of that bye-bye.

So Zach will have $1.5M in the bank while he spends the next 3-4 years in minor league ball. How much of that do you think get's spent along the way?

At the end of the day - if he doesn't pan out in pro-ball - he probably has $500k-800k (maybe) in the bank at 25 years old. That'll buy him a nice house to start his life with. Period.

Meanwhile, he has no degree and no skill set other than coaching baseball to hang the rest of his life on.

Not trying to be a debbie downer for Zach, but throwing away some of the best years of your life away for $1.5M isn't necessarily the best path forward. I can't imagine too many things that would be cooler as a 18-23 year old than to be BMOC as an LSU quarterback. That would be an experience that money can't buy.

I've been working for 20+ years and haven't spent that.
