he could easily be a backup QB for a decade if he's dedicated to the support role

Know who else had that pedigree? Ryan mallet, Drew Henson, Damon Huard, and Rohan Davey (Geaux Tigers!),

One things for sure, Brady wouldn't have to worry about losing his starting job if DE is his backup

Think Las Vegas has that as a 1,000,000-1 shot- but I'd put up $1 to win a MILLION......

Also all LSU offensive coaches would be embarrassed to show their face for fear of an interview

So I’m optimistic that he sticks around a while, but let’s not get carried away here.

I'm just hoping he can have a Matt Flynn career. Never really get it, and cash big checks.

There is nothing easy about keeping a spot on a 53 man roster for 10 years at any position, especially QB. The majority of backups that do remain in the league that long are guys that have also had significant playing time at times in their career and performed adequately when called on to play.

Just for fun:

Brady last 2 years at Michigan:
SR: 2217 yds; 61.0%; 16/6 TD/INT; 138.0 Rating
JR: 2427 yds; 61.9%; 14/10 TD/INT; 133.1 Rating

Etling last 2 years at LSU:
SR: 2463 yds; 60.0%; 16/2 TD/INT; 153.0 Rating
JR: 2123 yds; 59.5%; 11/5 TD/INT; 135.6 Rating

That's all relative. Passing numbers back in the 90s when Brady played were much lower than the typical passing numbers you see in today's game. For reference, Josh Booty was named All-SEC with similar passing numbers (actually worse) in 2000 as Brady had at Michigan.

How many QB's have you seen come through New England since Brady has been there. How many of them were pegged as the next big thing? How is Etling any different from them? Besides not being as good as probably 90% of them. Take your purple and gold glasses off.

That was 98-99' so end of the 90's and anyway, LSU has run a 90's offense so it's actually a legitimate comparison.

Seriously though, I'm not implying Etling can be the next Brady. Just throwing out "fun facts".

He has a better chance of getting cut before the season even starts than he does being the next big NFL QB.

It wouldn’t surprise me. He could go on to have a hall of fame career. We’ve all seen flashes of Marino while Etling was QBing for LSU.
