The roof on campus are Ludowici Italian tiles with a 3 color special LSU blend and are made in Ohio. Nothing Spanish about the campus except the workers building it.
Ludowici does not have Italian tiles but they do have Spanish tiles.

The PMAC is the worst. Terrible aesthetic outside and seats far from the court inside. The 60-70s was a bad time for LSU architecture.

Wow. How awesome is that place. I guess I've always so much wanted to forget the Sweet 16 Wisconsin game (in what 1999) that we went to, I've never checked to see if they ever updated the place. Oh well, had a good time skiing in Santa Fe on the trip. Think we scored like 8 points in the first half. Stromile Swift team--shoulda been another final 4 at least that year.

The problem with the atmosphere in the PMAC is all about the student section. The media is taking up prime space and so is the band. Move the flippin media to the uppers, the band to the middle level and give the students the entire lower section behind that basket. The way it is now looks like a high school and its embarrassing. The students will naturally bring the energy and with an expanded section allowing them to have more bodies in the stand, closer to the court the rest of the crowd will feed off their noise. This is such a simple fix that would drastically increase the PMAC atmosphere.

Why does everything on campus have to look the same? That's boring. The PMAC design is beautiful to me. Much better looking than most things built in the 70's. I agree about the leg room, but I wouldn't change much else. I even find the scoreboard design to be charming. I just don't understand why everything has to be 'modernized' . Can't we appreciate the charm and history of the place? It's not like we have to live there.

The PMAC needs an internal renovation. There's no reason to build a new arena. I think you could renovate the interior, add more leg room and some suites and though you'd reduce capacity, I think 12,000 is about right for LSU BB and you can make up for the revenue by charging more for suites and club seating. Move the media. Make three sides of the court in the lower bowl surrounded by bleachers for student seating and have one side be club seats. Have a smaller student section but charge more so you can have dedicated fans. You'd be surprised at how much big ten schools charge for student tickets. Michigan State charges $168 to sit in the Izzone.
The outside is what it is. In a few years it will be considered retro and cool.
The library has to be in the quad. You have to have the library in a centralized location for the academic programs. You can renovate Middleton.
I always thought LSU was modeled after Stanford University.

I'm against charging students. It's tough enough to get the student section filled with passionate fans as it is.

IIRC, from one of my Landscape Architecture classes, LSU's campus is actually considered to be Palladian inspired.
The only true "Italian Renaissance" building is the Acadian Dorm

i was living in North Stadium when they were driving the pilings for the PMAC .....the original structural design had to be revised during construction, as the roof would have collapsed under the original design ... the building was state of the art when it was built, and much needed, as pete played in an arena designed for cows. the university has done a good job updating the building, but we have more pressing needs than revising the present structure...after 8 years of jindal's destruction of our university system via money starvation, we will have to wait a long time to consider another remodeling

There are a lot of visual similarities with the arches and roofs. Naturally we have stately oak trees and broad magnolias whereas they have palm trees.

Agree about the band. They waste a lot of seats down by the court. Should be put in the middle level of the student section.

All those complaining thet the PMAC is the worst looking stadium in the SEC have clearly never seen the O'connell Center LINK
I've seen it. Same ugly 70's style on the exterior. But the seating is more on top of the court and closer. They also have some premium seating and club/suite seats.

You know this for fact?
In construction or engineering?
Curious, I remember it being built though was just a few years before my freshman year there (74), never heard this before.
