Supposedly, Bert Jones could stand on the playing field and throw a football OUT of TS, i.e., over the top.

Does anyone know if this is fact or fiction?

apparently josh booty could do this from the goal line, or so it was said during a broadcast

I heard Ray Guy could punt the ball so high it would hit the top of the Superdome!

Wasn't TS a horseshoe when he played? Maybe he just threw it out of the open end of the staium.

Bert Jones was good at dropping back 5 yards and falling down.

JK...that was just some joke a fomer LSU dlineman who player same years as Bert told me. Said he never would have thought that he would go pro. Course our offense was run-run-pass out of i-formation.

He was the second overall pick in the NFL draft... whatever former LSU player said that was an idiot.

Tiger Stadium was not a horseshoe when Bert Jones played. The stadium was closed in back in the fifties. Whether he could or not had nothing to do with the fact that he was one of the greatest QB's to play in the history of LSU football. Because he did not have the numbers that they put up today had nothing to do with that fact. Before the recent past during his stint at LSU they won more games during his time than in any other QB's stint. He was chosen by the Baltimore Colts or the Jets, if my memory serves me correct not sure, as the #2 pick in the 1973 draft.

The first I heard of this was from an interview (Advocate?) with Marcus Randall back in '04. When this idea was mentioned Marcus responded that he thought JaMarcus Russell would be able to do it.

Just wondering if anyone knew if Bert Jones really did this or not.

No north endzone at that time, so very feasible!
