Coming home from the camp one night and Hawthorne was on radio talking about the 2000 basketball team. SEC play has just started and he pretty much said get your asses to the P Mac because this squad Brady had put together was going to very special.
Good times with Hawthorne as he grew older, Blair is really good tho.

He was calling games as if listeners could see them. I was glad he retired.

I’d love to have Jim again instead of Blair. Gimme the mistakes all day long with the passion.
Agreed. I like Blair but I think he’s perfect for something like CBS radio NFL game of the week. I miss Hawthorne’s passion and genuine love for LSU.

That season was special. I remember I got out of Army Basic Training and had some money to blow, so I bought LSU basketball season tickets, even though I was going to be stationed in Kentucky, I thought I’d be able to see two or three games and I’d hand the rest off to friends.
I missed LSU bball being good in the early 90s and I just made a decision that they were going to be good and wouldn’t you know it, they did end up being good. When I was in line to buy season tickets at the new ticket office, Dale Brown walked in with a group of people and he looked over and smiled at me. I knew then it was going to be a special season.

Train whistle blows in the background of a baseball game.
“And there’s the 7:53 train right on time!”

I loved it when a game would go to extra innings and you could tell he was ready to go home.

There it is. I listened to many more baseball games than anything else he called over the years.
"My Oh My hit's hit a ton!!! Andddddd caught at the warning track"

Now that got to be funny over the years. The train was almost always on time within 5 minutes give or take and he'd say the exact time.

Similar to what I was going to say - waiting 2-3 minutes during a football game to know the down/distance/score/time or even what happened the last play while he moaned in disappointment or disbelief.
