It is sickening to hear so called LSU fans say we can’t get this coach or we can’t get that coach.

Why the f#ck not?!?!?!

I heard this same crap when we hired Mulkey and when we hired Kiffin. And guess what, we handed out the money and landed both. PROBLEM SOLVED!!!!

Listing Kelvin Sampson as the assistant coach of the Houston Rockets is laughable. Just because that was his most recent position before Houston, that would be like saying that Urban Meyer is only the fired coach of the Jacksonville Jaguars.

That is the position he left to take the Houston job. The point of the post that that major conf. school poaching doesn't happen all that frequently. And it didn't in Sampson's case either. He had been out of college coaching for 6 years (....because the NCAA told him he had to be)

LSU's position in the college basketball market is not the same as LSU's position in the CFB marketplace. LSU football is probably one of the top 10 jobs in football when you combine resources, success, availability to talent, coaching salaries, etc. LSU basketball isn't. And I say that as an LSU basketball fan.

Mulkey was an anomaly. She was a HOF coach raised in LA who also had a son attend LSU who was a prominent member of the baseball team. There was a draw outside of just money for her to LSU. Unfortunately, there is no such HC out there who fits that criteria on the men's side.

In about 2 months LSU is going to have a coaching search (barring an absurdly dumb decision to retain McMahon). Outside of Wade, you're immediately going to have people throwing out "big name" after "big name". It's very unlikely LSU would get one of those names because it's infrequent those "names" leave power conf. programs. Kentucky, one of the 3-4 most prominent "brands" in the sport, went through this last year. Scott Drew turned them down. So did Dan Hurley and others. They ended up settling for their 7th, 8th, 9th, choice (depending on who you talk to). And that was a program for whom money was no option.

It's not an immediate "failure" if LSU hires a mid-major HC. The three teams at the top of the SEC right now (A&M, Vandy, Florida) all hired their HCs from mid-major schools. Just have realistic expectations base upon realistic market factors.
